Comic Book Moments of the Week for 08/21/13

Alright, alright, alright, time for some Moments of the Week! Today let's take a look at the Avengers heading into battle against the Builders, Superman gets literally kicked across the country, Wonder Woman sees a big change that will probably be ignored in the rest of the DCU, witness the origin of Bloodshot, and see Hulk punch a stupid dinosaur in its stupid face. Always more after the jump, so let's dive in.

Avengers #18

The galaxy lines up an attack against the builders on the edge of a black hole, and then get rope a dope'd by the Builders, with Carol and Clint's ship seemingly crossing into the event horizon. Time for Plan B.

Batman & Robin Nightwing #23

It's a Nightwing labeled issue and Dick does show up to help Bruce out of his funk, but the big payoff is Alfred taking a turn on the what-if scenario, showing he truly is a father to the crew. Poor guy.

Bloodshot #0
Project Rising Spirit had a few Bloodshots in the past, but they were pretty much one-trick ponies in terms of what they could do, leaving a trail of destruction in their way. Then in 1993 the nanites are introduced to a host body that was a former soldier who killed a bunch of baddies in a loose mashup of Iran and Mogadishu...

And Bloodshot as we know him is born, but as is the case, the man who helped create him is killed in order to make sure the secret to his success can never be revealed. The life of comic book scientists.

Daredevil #30

Those who guessed Kirsten last month, a no-prize! The rest of the issue involves an alien asking for Matt's help, because the being is being chased by the Silver Surfer. Fight and make up!

It's like Back to the Future II! Why can't we have hoverboards yet?

Indestructible Hulk #12

Why are there dinosaurs in 1873? Because some bad guy from the future is using them to force people to mine silver in an attempt to create time travel material way in the future. Time for ROB to trick Hulk into saving the day.

Day saved, but Hulk jumps into the timestream to an unknown date:

Let's hope Waid does time travel better than what happened in Thunderbolts, as that constant hopping from location to location pretty much iced the book.

Justice League Dark #23
Shazam gets a hold of the head, but his magic does something as we see here. It also seems to cause everyone in Wonder Woman's little squad to fight each other for possession of the head, like the Precious:

Skeleton retrieved, Constantine and Zatanna try to teleport to London but are rerouted to where Madame Xanadu is held captive, for the big catch:

At this point it's all but confirmed the guy is Earth-3 Alfred, we'll see in a week.

Superman Unchained #3

Superman finally concedes, and is invited to The Machine, the place where this superior alien resides. Turns out he landed on Earth in 1938 as a call for cooperation on the eve of World War II was broadcast into space.

Wraith is responsible for curbing much of the Red Menace's advancement across the world, being brought back into duty in recent years, possibly with Darkseid attacking six years ago. Of course Superman talks about transparency and the public's right to know, leading Sam Lane to give the boy scout a what for:

Wonder Woman #23

Diana, your new God of War.

X-Men #4
While Logan and Jubilee goof off in L.A., the ladies are busy helping save a plane from crashing, with a rather clever use of powers:

If only we all had mutant islands living underneath us that can create diamonds that grow on trees, we'd be able to buy whatever house we wanted (that is how the Jean Grey School stays afloat, no joke!)

X-O Manowar #16

Aric and Gilad have an argument over might and right, with Aric wanting that crown (which was his father's) as he and the Visigoth refugees lay claim to land in Romania.

Essentially Aric lets the refugees farm and live their lives as they are used to, relying on the armor to keep his people safe. Other than that, he causes no problems for the world. If only he would buy all his people a Dacia Sandero!

The man who has super armor can look like an idiot to everyone, which is leading into the upcoming Valiant series Trinity.
