Cover of the Week - Avenging Spider-Man and American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares

I've been sick as a dog these past few days, so this week's reviews are very much running behind.  I apologize for that, but in the meanwhile, I hope you can enjoy this week's Covers of the Week (if that's not enough, you can always re-read my Stumptown review).  This time around, we have a madder than usual man of spiders paling around with Marvel's maddest character and some subzero vampirism for your viewing pleasure.  Hit the jump to check these out, along with the week's honourable mentions.

Ken's Cover of the Week - Avenging Spider-Man #12 by Shane Davis

Ken: Drawing some inspiration from the Norman Rockwell cover, the two wisecracking superheroes get in a fight and go to the Principal's office. It's not a complete homage like Skottie Young's New X-Men #42 cover was, but what can you do when the guy sitting next to you puts down a whoopee cushion?

Grant's Cover of the Week - American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #4  by Dustin Nguyen

Grant: I've long been a self-professed fan of Dustin Nguyen's work, and covers like this are exactly why I dig his art so much.  The image itself is simply beautiful, but the use of the crimson red on top of the stark black and white really makes the whole thing pop.  I think this early version is slightly better than the final colour, as the red stands a little brighter here, but both are good in my books.

Runner-Ups:  Saucer Country #7, The Manhattan Projects #6, The Massive #4
