Crisis On Charity Arts - Francesco Francavilla's RoboCop
Francesco Francavilla is a comic artist star on the rise with high profile work for both Marvel and DC right now. In other news, a bunch of people decided they would actually fund a statue of RoboCop in Detroit (never mind real charities that could have used that $60,000, and growing). These two stories have intersected as Francavilla decided to do something good for the world and has made his own drawing of RoboCop (seen above) and is auctioning it off on his blog with the funds going to an actual worthy cause, Forgotten Harvest, and thus this money will actually help others not just provide a cheap laugh.
If you are keen to actually help people, and get some very cool art in the process, then head over to Francavilla's blog and place a bid. He'll even cover postage to you and throw in a copy of his sketchbook. The bidding started at $50, and will go up in $5 increments, but is already up to $200 at this time of posting.

Every city needs a robocop statue. Charities be damned!!!
Robocop is a symbol of justice, a showcase of the good technology can provide, and the power of humanity even through death itself. Anyone against a statue to this is aligned with the terrorists. And possibly a racist.
j/k. Maybe.
*pledged five bucks for Robocop statue, and damn proud of it.*
Also, I'm gonna assume you posted this message from a library with free internet access, as you've given up all your worldly possessions to help the needy, so you're free to look down on people paying for things they like instead of paying for other people's needs and wants.
@Jeremy - just pushing my agenda, man. Ha.
I think maybe having seen my country flooded and hit by a cyclone, it kind of annoyed me that a RoboCop statue could garner so much money. I'm all for people spending their money on themselves, but spending it on this infuriates me almost without logical reason.
When people help fund a Robocop statue for Detroit, it'll lead to people going to Detroit to see the Robocop statue, which in turn leads to Detroit's economy getting a boost because of tourism.
Besides, who's to say that the people throwing a few bucks towards Robocop aren't also donating money for Australian flood relief?
And finally, spending money on oneself is okay, but donating some cash for a statue that will bring a faction of the public some amusement is not okay?
However, I should add that I like what Francavilla's doing with his art auction.
I won't say people donating to this statue are evil - they're just stupid, ha ;)
Or I'm just getting old.
