The Eisner nominations are out for the 2011 awards and they are certainly interesting. Where 2010 seemed to have plenty of Big Two top talent this year is much more independent. Throughout this week, we’re going to discuss each of the main sections of the awards, offer some suggestions for those who missed out, and then open up the floor for you all to have your say. Right now we’re looking at Best Writer/Artist. Let's get into it.
Best Writer/Artist
Dan Clowes, Wilson (Drawn & Quarterly)
Darwyn Cooke, Richard Stark’s Parker: The Outfit (IDW)
Joe Kubert, Dong Xoai, Vietnam 1965 (DC)
Terry Moore, Echo (Abstract Studio)
James Sturm, Market Day (Drawn & Quarterly)
Naoki Urasawa, Naoki Urasawa’s 20th Century Boys (VIZ Media)
What They Got Right
They included
Darwyn Cooke, even though Richard Stark’s Parker The Outfit didn’t get a nod elsewhere and it was clearly better than The Hunter. I’d like to see Cooke take out the prize on this one not because he didn’t get it last time but because he got even better since last time.
Again, no Big Two representation here, though to be fair there aren’t m/any quality writer/artists playing in either sandbox. I really wish there were.
What They Got Wrong
Not much, really. This list seems pretty inclusive and makes me happy.
Conclusion
These are just some thoughts on the Eisner nominations for this category. We’d love to hear what you think so please add any thoughts or comments down below.

I would just add Ian Churchill's "Marineman". That book is beautifully drawn and has a great story to boot.
I am very surprised that Langridge didnt make it. His work Muppets was exceptional.
I guess the Luna Brothers (Sword) wouldn't count as "Best Writer/Artist"?
I'd be willing to bet now that Churchill's Marineman will get a nomination next year. It might have been too late for this year's awards.
Darwyn Cooke is a fine creator, but this is wrong. Richard Stark is the writer of "The outfit" – Cooke didn't write it, he adapted an existing story for comics. This category should only be open for creators doing original work.
