Matt Brady Exits Newsarama

In a shocking move earlier today, Matt Brady, arguably the voice and face of Newsarama, announced that he would be leaving the site after nearly 20 years in the comic book reporting business. While I've disagreed with the direction Newsarama has taken over the past few years, especially post-Imaginova takeover, I still recall first finding Newsarama as a column on Comicon.com and when it became its own fullblown site back in the early 2000's. It's a shame to see Matt Brady, someone who's passion for comics has brought us so much news and content over the years, go and his departure leaves a huge void in the industry that will be tough for anyone to fill.

As a personal message to Matt, thanks for everything. Newsarama was one of the first and only comic sites for many years and a younger me's number one source for comic book news and an inspiration for my current blogging here at the Weekly Crisis. Farewell and good luck with any future endeavours.

'Shocking'? Newsarama is more of a collossal cesspit-full of jabbering, whining and snarling idiots than ever before. He probably left out of shame for what he had helped create.

My guess? He is going to be running for vice-president along Sarah Palin.

Great post, Kirk. Despite any objections to what Newsarama has become or is compared to what it was, you really have to hand it to Matt for opening the door for a lot of other big comics sites. Matt was a total pro and from what I could tell in emails we exchanged, a genuinely good guy with a love for the industry. I wish him all the best in whatever he does next...unless it involves Matt's suggestion above.

Sorry, I don't want to be That Guy, but what's the deal with Newsarama? I didn't read it regularly until recently.

@Sebastion - I'm not sure what you mean, exactly. Are you referring to my comments about disagreeing with their direction post-Imaginova? I'd rather keep this poston a positive note and more about saying good bye to Matt Brady and thanking him for all the work he's done progressing the comic news industry over the past 20 years than airing grievances with Newsarama. If you'd like to know more about why I disagree with the NuRama, feel free to email me at weeklycrisis@gmail.com and I'll be more than happy to expand upon it.

Yeah, that and Ryan's comment. I hear that a lot from everybody. Like I said, I'm relatively new to the comic book internet. I was just curious.
