Sorry for the delays in getting the previews up, but I've been helping lay some new flooring the past few days and haven't had a chance to update the ol' blog. The X-Men franchise seems to be rolling out the next wave of 'earth shattering' events with the Magik and Manifest Destiny books shipping out this week. Not sure if these will be worth picking up or not, but I'll be getting them anyways.
On the DC side of things, I think Secret Six is coming out, but couldn't find confirmation since Diamond was being weird with their updates at the time of writing. I'll definitely be getting this if it's out, though.

Kirk Says: After two issues of hand holding, we finally get to the meat of this story with the Venom vs Anti-Venom fight and, of course, Spidey is caught in the middle. I'm not sure what to expect with this, but I'm hoping we'll see some more information on what Peter knows about his deal with Mephisto, which was alluded to him outright knowing he's made a deal with the devil last issue.
DETECTIVE COMICS #848Written by Paul Dini

Kirk Says: Surprisingly, this Hush story has been much better than I had anticipated. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

Kirk Says: Abin Sur's killer? As far as I could tell, Abin died from the crash and was alive after Atrocitus flew the coupe during re-entry. Anyway you look at it, this is the issue we've been waiting for ever since Secret Origin began.
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #5Written by Matt Fraction

THE FIVE NIGHTMARES builds to its penultimate chapter. Stane and his army make their assault against Stark -- the man AND the conglomerate -- and Tony Stark shows even an old dog can pick up a trick or two when his back's against the wall. Kirk Says: I'm probably going to see this first story through to the end and then call it quits on Invincible Iron Man. It's just not doing anything for me, especially after how great the Knaufs' run on Director of SHIELD was. The soft reboot of the franchise to reflect the movie, which I loved, isn't doing it for me in the comics either.

Kirk Says: It's Manhunter. If you aren't reading it, you're missing out on some good comics.

Kirk Says: Really enjoying Nightwing since Tomasi took over, but he's yet to hit his stride (aside from characterization, which is spot on). Hoping once this tie-in with RIP is over, he can wow me with the full package deal.

Kirk Says: Moore did a good job on the first issue, but it was far too slow for my liking and lack the full on supporting cast interactions were a little lax. They were there, but more like background pieces than actual players in this title - even Peter / Spider-Man.

Kirk Says: So, is this just an X-Men: Divided We Stand non-event all over again or what? Picking it up mostly for more Skottie Young work (I hope he's pencilling his story, but it only listed him as the writer).

Kirk Says: Not a big fan of magic stories, in general, but I'll give this a shot based on how much I enjoyed the New X-Men issues featuring Magik.

Nightwing looks good. I'm in the same boat as you, playing the waiting game for Nightwing. Still a solid read though.
FINALLY the last issue of Secret Origin. I'm happy to see this over. Needs more Violence.

the X-men stuff is pretty much junk, and from advanced reviews, confirms it.
Bad news. Penultimate means "next to last" :) But it looks like we're getting to the interesting stuff of Secret Origin.

at last some iceman action
I'm excited about X-Infernus, but there's no point in getting return of Magik, I already have New X-Men #37 and Divided We Stand #2. As far as I can tell X-Men: Manifest Destiny isn't really an event, its more like an Iceman mini-series with some backup stories. All a Manifest Destiny tag means is 'This book is set in San Francisco'. I'm expecting a good Iceman story from Mike Carey, nothing more.
Oh, and I seriously doubt Spidey knows about Mephisto. In my opinion, he was referring to something that happened in the mysterious new timeline that erased everyone's memories of his identity. Maybe he cut a deal with the Sentry.
From the looks of it, these next 2 issues are Anti-Venom centric (since the variant for 571 has his mug on it) then we switch back to the Thunderbolts plot. I'm more interested in Anti-Venom over anything, but the whole "Peter might know" just seems stupid to do this so late in the game.
The preview has Catwoman being taken hostage by Hush, which has me worried.
The previews for Manifest Destiny show Mystique returning, which I didn't expect to happen so soon. I'm tempted to pick this up just for Mystique alone.
hey Kirk (or anyone else) I'm interested in Secret Six but dont know what its about...are they like The Flash's Rogues or are they more like the Thunderbolts?

I went to the comic book store today to get Storming Paradise #3. Apparently comics come in a day late this week due to Labor Day.
