Captain America #31 - Jim Steranko Homage

Just a quick update for the time being. While I was working on the Comic Book Moments of the Week, which will be posted later today, I came across a page in this week's Captain America #31 that reminded me of an old Jim Steranko Cap issue. Thought I'd just show everyone the homage piece in case they might have missed it. Hit the jump for the comparison scans.

Steve Epting does an excellent job paying homage to this classic Steranko piece while simultaneously making the work his own. I love small touches like this in comics. They pay tribute to the older classics without relying on pure nostolgia to drive the stories. Just another reason Brubaker and Epting's Captain America is one of the best books coming out of Marvel.

When I read Captain America this morning, it occured to me that this page was very familiar. Thanks for the comparison, because I didn't realize how much of an homage it was until you put them side by side. Both pages are beautiful, haunting images.
