Merry Moments of the Week, everyone! Everyone's looking to get their books out before the end of the year so it's an extra sized edition, as Scarlet Spider and Buzzkill end, Harley Quinn and Illegitimates begin, and Peter Parker is donning a symbiote and walking around to a jazz number. Sorta. Hit the jump for all this and much more.
All-New X-Men #20
If you thought the cover of the two heroes kissing would be in the issue, sorry. Turns out the only thing X-23 and Cyclops do is a sniff and a very awkward hug. Even more awkward is how Laura doesn't really read like Laura.
Black Science #2
Stranded on this new world for four hours before the damaged pedestal can send everyone to another location, it seems to be in this world its Germans and Aztecs fighting. Grant is injured which prevents them from working on the device, meaning the security guard and defacto leader, Ward, is looking for whatever medical help he can get in this world.
Buzzkill #4
Francis' greatest enemy, the one he lost control in subduing, is actually his dad. Now's not the time for his stint at sobriety.
Love is a drug? Let's see what it can do...
This isn't the end of the story, I just didn't want to spoil it. Pick up this trade or the issues online, there's a great twist that really works for the story being told. A very good mini that surprised me, I want to see more from this creative team of Cates, Reznicek and Shaw.
East of West #8
While Death is looking for help in finding his son, back in The Union Madame President is trying to quell the unrest that comes with such a quick removal of cabinet members.
The riots and unrest are largely due to the younger generation, as she sets foot in the field to see them up close:
Ice cold.
Harley Quinn #1
Harley's on her way to Coney Island to find her new building that was bequeathed to her, but there's always a catch. Outside of some biker guy trying to kill her, of course.
This is basically Lady Deadpool, minus the dueling personalities. If that's up your alley then check out this book.
The Illegitimates #1
When your James Bond stand-in is killed, who better to carry on his legacy than all the children he has around the world. Cue the Bond Girls:
Even Moneypenny. This is a fun take on the spy world, give it a look.
Saga #17
Lying Cat, Assassin Dog.
Not
The Will!
Things just go from bad to worse.
Scarlet Spider #25
Kaine is done in Houston, as he and
Aracely head to Mexico to escape the heroics. Or does he?
We'll see the two soon in New Warriors, as there's more to Kaine's story than what we see in this very quickly wrapped up finale.
Superior Spider-Man #24
Ock is able to tame the symbiote, and goes on a big cleanup of the city.
This is so out of control The Avengers are called in to help bring Spider-Venom down in the next issue. The use of the symbiote here actually feels threatening but also complimentary to Ock, which you don't really see in other Venom appearances.
Uncanny Avengers #15
Death Sentry is incredibly messed up, always ripping his face off.
Sentry might be taken care of but it's all for nought:
This all ties back to when Thor enchanted that axe, so of course the Celestial gives us a big thumbs down for living.
Wonder Woman #26
I still don't think that needle was just for popping those balloons. And coincidentally, the first person Zola runs into as she leaves Diana's is Dionysus. Gods are always scheming....
X-O Manowar #20
Aric looks to evacuate his people from the ship as it crashed in the Pacific, but it seems the Unity team may have caused more harm than good as China and the US now fight with Russia to get to the alien technology first:
To be continued in Unity #3.
Young Avengers #14
So it turns out the reader's world might not revolve around Billy, but it did for Miss America. Really, Marvel, let's chill on making Billy this super important character.
Zero #4
Zero is sent to take out Carlyle, a long retired former operative, but is showing doubts about his
handler, Zizek, who seemed to facilitate the sale of the technology we saw back in issue #1. Despite these doubts Zero still follows through with his mission in pretty graphic detail, but not before receiving a gift:
Another callback to the first issue, as Zero seems to be becoming Carlylye more and more over time.
5 comments:
Laura probably doesn't sound like Laura since Bendis is writing her.
Harley has a dachshund. I love dachshunds.
Lot's of unresolved plot threads from Scarlet Spider. Especially in regards to the people after Aracely. I like how much of Peter's "Other" storyline has been carried over here. Not just the powers but the villains as well.
Not covered here, but I am loving Godzilla: Rulers of Earth.
