Grant: I'm always, always, always ready for more Hawkeye. While things have been heating up over in NYC, this issue reminds us that Kate wasn't left in the best of situations either. I'm excited to have some more Lady Hawkguy and Pizza Dog goodness, and it's a nice touch that Matt Fraction has brought Annie Wu (who drew the Annual featuring Kate) back in for this issue.

Grant: Just when it seems like Saga can't get any better or more interesting, Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples seem to come along and release the next issue, routinely outdoing themselves in the process. The paparazzi / war correspondents angle seems like an excellent addition thus far, adding yet more confusion and chaos to a narrative that often feels like it's on the edge of control. Of course, when Vaughan is helming the writing, that's a good thing, and with Staples drawing it, it's even better.

Grant: I'm legitimately pretty broken up that Jason Latour isn't back on art for this Sledgehammer tour of duty. While I was way into the story of the first Sledgehammer miniseries, it was Latour's art that really made the whole thing sing in my estimation. That being said, Mignola and company don't exactly pick slouches when it comes to their artists, so I do have a certain amount of hope for Laurence Campbell. Still though, part of me can't help but wish it was Latour...

BEDLAM #10

Grant: Bedlam hasn't really got into anything quite resembling a reliable release schedule, which is a shame. The variable time between chapters makes it a little hard to keep track of what's been happening from issue to issue, but I am always happy to get the latest piece of the wider narrative. Nick Spencer could perhaps stand to give a bit more meaning or stakes to the whole thing, but on the balance, it's hard to complain about what's been going down thus far. And there's absolutely nothing to complain about when it comes to Ryan Browne's wicked art. I was a bit worried when Riley Rossmo stepped away from the title, but Browne has brought his own aesthetic to the book that feels true to what Rossmo did while adding a whole new flavour to the book.
PRETTY DEADLY #2
Written by Kelly Sue DeConnick
Art by Emma Rios
The Old West is steeped in violence and strange magic in this macabre tale from the team behind the cult-hit miniseries Osborn, KELLY SUE DECONNICK (Captain Marvel) and EMMA RÍOS (Dr. Strange). Gunfighters have it out with swords as the whole world burns. There will be blood, blood, blood.
Grant: Pretty Deadly #1 was a tad on the enigmatic side, but it did make for a fascinating read. Kelly Sue DeConnick clearly has some big plans for this story, and Emma Rios is straight killing things on art (surprising no one). I'm yet to be 100% on where this whole thing is going, but for the moment, I'm more than willing to stick around to find out.
RAT QUEENS #3
Written by Kurtis J. Wiebe
Art by Roc Upchurch
'GOLD, GUTS AND GROG,' Part Three One tablespoon of cayenne peppers, 2 ounces of 100 proof vodka, and 3 ounces of tomato juice makes one fantastic Bloody Murder. So does double-crossing the Rat Queens and foolishly thinking you can get away with it. Drink up!
Grant: I feel like there are not enough people talking about Rat Queens right now. Admittedly, I dig this book so thoroughly that I'm not sure there could ever be enough people talking about Rat Queens, but I still maintain that number could be higher. This book is a laugh riot that manages to hit that perfect combination of incredibly intelligent and incredibly ridiculous writing. Kurtis J. Wiebe and Roc Upchurch have unleashed something really special on comics here, and I hope that the book's audience only gets bigger moving forward.
Pick of the Week
This is a tough week, as I could give this award to most any book I have featured up above, but in the end, I'm going to have to go with Rat Queens #3. I've followed most every book that Kurtis J. Wiebe has done, and this is, bar none, my favourite. This book's sense of humour is cracked to the core, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I also have to lavish some praise on Roc Upchurch's wonderful artwork, as he makes every page better than you think it could be. We're still early days, but from issue one, I've been dying to see what comes next.

You sure do like female-centric comic books Grant. I remember your love for the previous Batgirl and Supergirl series. It's not a criticism, just find it curious. But I never see you talking about Captain Marvel, which is praised by everybody but me (I like Carol but it might be a bit too girly for me). I do follow Wonder Woman tho, love it.
