Cover of the Week - Dark Avengers and Punk Rock Jesus

A busy week here at The Weekly Crisis, but things are never too busy for the Cover of the Week!  This time around, we have some shadowy vindicators and an anarchic messiah for your viewing pleasure.  Check them out, along with our honourable mentions, behind the cut!

Ken's Cover of the Week - Dark Avengers #177 by John Tyler Christopher

Ken: It's hard to do a split cover that maintains a consistent look and isn't confusing to the eye, but this cover gets it done. It doesn't try to go for a swerve by having Moonstone and Cage being the the knocked out ones at the foreground, instead using Toxie Doxie as a simple substitute. Simple but effective.

Grant's Cover of the Week - Punk Rock Jesus #1

Grant: Sean Murphy is a talented guy with an eye for design. This cover does an excellent job in bringing together pretty much everything that is implied through the book's Punk Rock Jesus title. I could go on about how much I dig the DYI magazine-clipped lettering, the badasss liberty spikes, or the anger you can see in that young man's expression, but I think this cover really comes down to that upside down cross. It's the perfect mixture of the profane and the holy that this book seems to be all about, with a nice little anarchy nod to it. Murphy really shows that he knows what he's doing here.

Runner-Ups:  Adventure Time: Marceline Scream Queens #1, Conan the Barbarian #6, The Massive #2

What is the Dark Avengers stuff coming out now? I haven't been to the shop in awhile. It's number 177 -- does that mean it took over a different Avengers title?

I really enjoyed the Dark Avengers, and that cover is pretty awesome.
