It's Post-Crisis Previews time, everyone, so you know what that means! It's time for me to to tell you all about the books I'm looking at looking at this week, which equates to a number of different titles this time around. I am still hook, line, and sinkered on Animal Man, am cautiously intrigued by Avengers Vs X-Men #1, and am super pumped for the triumphant return of Skullkickers! There's more behind the jump, so why don't you join me there?
ANIMAL MAN #8

“Animal vs. Man” Part 2! Buddy takes a stand as the horde of Rot-infested animals continues to grow and close in on the Baker family. But the results are disastrous, setting up a chain of events that may lead Maxine right to the Hunters.
Grant: I am seriously into the magic that Jeff Lemire has been creating in his inspired reboot of the ever affable Animal Man. My expectations weren't all that high going into this thing, but I quickly adjusted them after that amazing opening issue. Despite that, Lemire keeps blowing those expectations away with each subsequent issue. This series keeps getting better and better. The only thing that might slow things down is the imminent departure of Travel Foreman, but while his unique style has been an integral part of this narrative, I feel like Lemire will be able to make do without his initial partner in crime (or at least, I hope he will).

• Does The Return Of The Phoenix To Earth Signal The Rebirth Of The Mutant Species? That’s What The X-Men Believe!
• Unfortunately, The Avengers Are Convinced That Its Coming Will Mean The End Of All Life On Earth!
• The Stage Is Set For The Ultimate Marvel Showdown In This Oversized First Issue!
Grant: Avengers Vs X-Men #0 wasn't terrible, so I'm giving the series proper a shot. I somehow manage to exclusively follow Marvel titles that don't fit into their big events, so I'm a little lost as to what's actually going on, but I feel like it can't be that important. Such superfluous things like plot or character work are often the first things jettisoned in things like this. We'll see if AvX falls prey to what every other event does! (I'm betting yes)

Grant: I'm so terribly excited to have more Dustin Nguyen drawn Batman. His work with Paul Dini on Detective Comics however many years back that was is some of my favourite comics in a good, long while. I'm also partial to any solicitation that is willing to use 'rumble' to describe what's going to go down in the issue in question. This looks like a winning combination to me!

•Setting The Stage For This Month’s Daredevil/Spider-Man/Punisher Crossover “The Omega Effect”!
Grant: I don't know much about this Khoi Pham gent, but I've heard good things coming down the grapevine, so I'll certainly give him a chance. Especially when the book has such a nice looking cover to recommend it. Especially especially when it's setting the stage for the Omega Effect, which I've totally bought into, despite the fact that I'm not generally a fan of crossover storyarcs (it helps that I'm already buying most of the titles it's crossing over into).

"SIX SHOOTER ON THE SEVEN SEAS," Part One
Wait no longer - the third Skullkickers adventure begins! A mysterious cargo, frolicking fish, horrific monsters, food fights, strange onomatopoeia and pirates aplenty. Jump aboard!
Grant: Yes please! Skullkickers has been a ton of fun since its first appearance on stands. I initially picked up the first issue on a whim, and I remain glad to this day that I did. The hiatus between arcs has been longer than I would have liked, but it looks like we're back in business for some sailing and adventuring on the high seas. Should be good. (Note: the onomatopoeia are perhaps the best part of this series. I don't know if it's Jim Zub or Edwing Huang coming up with them, but they're all gold)
SWEET TOOTH #32

With Jepperd held captive in the woods, it’s up to Gus to save the day. But can our little antlered boy rise to the challenge? “Unnatural Habitats” roars to its shocking conclusion – and not all of our heroes will make it out of the dam alive!
Grant: While Jeff Lemire continues to set the world ablaze with his amazing work on Animal Man, he's doing about the same over here on his long-running, creator-owned Sweet Tooth. This series is continually one of the best in terms of story and character. While the solicitation is a little hyperbolic, Lemire does deliver on these types of promises, so I'm on the edge of my seat to see how this whole storyarc concludes.
And that's my week. A pretty exciting one, if I do say so myself. What's on your plate to kick off April? Some good stuff, I hope. Are you chomping at the bit to get your hands on AvX or are you a little underwhelmed like yours truly?

They're calling a Marvel story "The Omega Effect?" Won't Darkseid be pissed? Or are Waid and Rucka just having fun with their former bosses?
I've read Avengers vs. X-Men #1 and it has absolutely nothing to do with #0. So don't let your thoughts on #0 cloud your interest in #1. The first proper issue of the Event is actually pretty darn good.
Animal Man, Daredevil, Fatale, Swamp Thing, Tbolts, Venom. Also the Digital code to read AvX.

@Combat - How's Fatale been? I wasn't sold on the first few issues and drifted off, but I've been curious how it's developing.

Fatale's pace has picked up. It's not as Lovecraftian as I was hoping, but things are starting to get really weird now and the whole book has gotten more intense.

Fatale is really good. Gets better after every issue. This wk's issue, a sight to behold in the pgs.
