Daredevil #323, by D.G. Chichester and Scott McDaniel
Ah the black armor days. This was a new armor Matt was able to piece together from laboratories after his costume was torn to shreds during the Fall From Grace story arc, which also saw Elektra come back to the Marvel Universe and Matt faking his death to focus on being Daredevil full-time. On top of his usual billy clubs (which sat on his wrists in nice holders like you see in the third panel), they also combined into a staff and nunchucks, which is so simple I don't know why it wasn't kept around. This costume lasted about two years, until a patented Murdock nervous breakdown happened like it always does to put things back to normal. Quality of the later stories aside, I liked this costume.

The only problem with DD's armor? Scott McDaniel could draw the hell out of it. No one else could!
I liked this era of DD. And I was okay with the armor. In fact, there are very few eras of DD I didn't like. The character's been blessed by so much talent over the years.
Oh man, when i was still in my teens this came out and batman had the armored look at the same time and i sooooo wanted a crossover of the two in their new costumes.
I had a post in mind but googum beat me to it. The black DD armor (like Bachalo's GENERATION X uniforms) didn't look quite right with anyone else drawing it. McDaniel had a great shadow heavy style that I really enjoyed. Too bad he's traded it on for the generic work he does now.

I liked the armor, but I also like the yellow-and-red original DD outfit, so what do I know?
I remember thinking it was really weird that Daredevil 351 was solicited with a "new direction" that involved the yellow suit but that's not what happened.
But yeah, the armor looked cool. I think it was as much the colorists that couldn't handle it as much as other artists. Like in Amazing Spider-Man, it looked more gray than anything.
It was a love/hate thing for me. The costume was pretty cool in its own way, but the artwork in general was too busy for me at the time, so it detracted from the costume. I've had fun replicating it on a Mighty Mugg, so yeah, it's a fun costume.
Speaking of great DAREDEVIL creative teams (and sine this is the only site where I post my opinions on comic related matters)...Did anyone else find Anne Nocenti's GREEN ARROW incredibly disappointing? Sorry to go off-topic, but I was really looking forward to it (not only was Ms. Nocenti's DAREDEVIL my introduction to the character but it remains one of my favorite DD runs to this day). Maybe it was Harvey Tolibao's (les than stellar) art, but GREEN ARROW #7 really let me down. Thank you...I had to get that out and couldn't wait for the weekly reviews.
@Jacksyattering - I reviewed Nocenti's GA on CBR and gave it 3 stars. I liked the Skylark premise but the art was not fantastic and GA himself didn't make me care in the slightest.
I'll stick with it, for a while, but only for my faith in Nocenti.
Man, I hated GA #7. I admit I'm heavily biased because I hate the "Smallville" feel they gave Ollie, but everything about it just felt so off...
