Comic Book Moments of the Week for 01/04/12

 

Welcome to the first Moments of the Week of 2012! The new year starts off with a mystery solved in Action Comics, something naughty is whispered in Defenders, Age of Apocalypse follies occur in Uncanny X-Force, and Wonder Man loses it in Avengers Annual. Also on tap is Luke Cage in a cowboy hat, Frankenstein vs. OMAC, and the beast is unleashed in Swamp Thing. All that and psychic starfishes stuck to your head after the jump!
 

Action Comics #5

Clark was just one letter short of calling Jonathan "Dad," so close.

So that skeleton Luthor showed us earlier in the series was just a deformed calf, not Krypto. That super puppy is in the Negative Zone, after defending his owners from prisoners trying to escape as Krypton exploded.

Animal Man #5

Grandma is pretty chill, not being freaked out by a talking cat after dealing with Buddy as a son-in-law.

Woodland critter rescue rangers!

Woodland critter reversal of fortune! Next up, a crossover with Swamp Thing. As for how Swamp Thing deals with the Rot, see further down this post.

Avengers Annual #1

 Are you crying? There's no crying! There's no crying in baseball SHIELD!

And to follow up on the baseball moment, it's much more cost effective to just teleport the villains to an empty stadium and beat them up than in the middle of Manhattan.

I wonder if Beast is going to turn his back on this fellow friend as well, even though Cyclops is nowhere near as crazy as Simon. Or is Simon really that crazy? How does this tie-into Children's Crusade which has been going on for two years? We may never know.

Defenders #2

Iron Fist did try his best, distorting prison helmets be damned.

Strange sure is letting the kinky side of him come to the surface in this series so far. Red She-Hulk will have to ask regular She-Hulk for a superhero restraining order.

Not just a time machine, an......everything machine. That looks like it came from Dr. Seuss' world.

Justice League International #5

Because of the reboot, I guess this makes Godiva the first British person in space?

Hair saves the day!

Try as Booster might, Gold and Green is having trouble getting off the ground in the bwa-ha-ha department. But Gold and Blonde is getting pretty friendly, from the looks of things.

Mudman #2

Mud cannot be stopped, think of the uses!

Moonwalking is so old, mudwalking is the new trend.

He tried his best to look cool, but Owen just couldn't pull it off. Still, catching criminals is a good start.

O.M.A.C. #5

Fights between heroes always overcomes fears.

I think that got a lot of attention, Brother Eye. On to Frankenstein #5 later this month!

Swamp Thing #5

Green is in this season, oh yeah.

Alec Holland knows how to put kids in timeout.



Thunderbolts #168

The cowboy hat looks a lot better than the winter cap Luke has worn in the past, what better way to show that you're all about rounding up them there varmints on the loose?

He's alive! The Ghost's alive! He's in the Victorian Era but he's alive! As for Cage there, he was just exposed to Fear Gas and thought he killed someone but he didn't, Back to the Future references are more important.

Villains For Hire #2

Villain inferiority issues are always so insightful.

Poor Shocker, he should have stayed on the path to redemption with the Thunderbolts.

Uncanny X-Force #19.1

Clones of Wanda, that's never a good thing in any world. Silly humans.

If ever there was a time for a sad trombone sound, that was it. Didn't even hit Wolverinepocalypse with the wave.

Uncanny X-Men #4

Justified anger is worth borrowing Cytorrak's powers, that Phalanx did just kill an entire town. Colossusnaut is one of those things that just seemed gimmicky but nice moments like this make it work.

Aw, the crazy killing machine is all alone, how sad.. That's why you don't mess with humans and talking Raccoons!

X-Club #2

May that starfish never leave Nemesis' head.

Seeing that means bathroom time.

 

That's the moment of the week right there. Stubbornness fixes everything. Don't look to Uncanny X-Men or Wolverine and the X-Men, X-Club is the best mutant book right now. Heck, it's up there with Daredevil at the moment.
