Support "Comics In Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men" Documentary
People are using Kickstarter for all sorts of crowd funding projects but I wanted to bring just one of these initiatives to light because I have a feeling you'll want to know about it. The SequArt Research and Literacy Organization and Respect Films are putting together a documentary about Chris Claremont and his epic 17 year run on the title titled Comics In Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men. Much like Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods and Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts, we can assume this documentary will be fantastic. Hit the jump to see the details about this documentary and why you should at least be chipping in $10.
Helping Out
I like Kickstarter because I like people helping out others where they can. I also think it's extremely smart because you get something for your aid, and people always want something for their efforts. If you support the Comics In Focus documentary then you have levels of incentives to choose from. That's smart.
The best thing about this campaign is that if you just pledge $10 you'll get a digital copy of the movie, and get it a month before it's more widely available. That's basically just a pay to play pledge, you aren't heavily giving your pay cheque away, this is just a pre-order for the final product.
If you want to support more, then there are plenty of reasons to really open the wallet, and those reasons are shown below.
The Video
Watch the video on the site and let it convince you. It only runs a minute and the fact I wanted it to never end is exactly why I'm backing this project. I love seeing comic creators talk about comics. It's why I eat these documentaries up, and why I listen to so many damn podcasts. These people are on the frontlines and they're nearly always amazing to listen to.
The Details of the Project
The following is from the Kickstarter page - because they sum it up best.
Comics in Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men examines one of the most important comic books of the modern age, using new, high-profile interviews to explore both the behind-the-scenes story of the series and its influence.
During his 17 years writing X-Men / Uncanny X-Men, from 1974 to 1991, Chris Claremont took the title from the brink of cancellation to being the best-selling comic of all time, co-creating more iconic characters than any comic book writer since Stan Lee. Over the course of his run, Claremont remained remarkably fluid, changing with the times as writers like Alan Moore and Frank Miller reshaped comics.
While stories like “The Dark Phoenix Saga” remain popular to this day, the impact and legacy of Claremont’s run remains widely unexplored. Today, the “X-books” remain a massive franchise that spans comics, movies, and TV, but for most of the ‘70s and ‘80s, they were one man’s vision. Claremont's work has inspired writers like Joss Whedon and Matt Fraction and redefined the super-team, creating a set of stories that endures decades after original publication.
Comics in Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men will take an in-depth look at Claremont’s monumental run. It will explore the behind-the-scenes origins of notable characters like Wolverine, Storm, and Phoenix, as well as the challenges of creating art within a corporate system. The film will include new interviews with many of the biggest players involved, including Claremont, Louise Simonson, Ann Nocenti, Art Adams, and Jim Shooter. Particularly notable is a roundtable interview featuring Claremont, Simonson, and Nocenti, together for the first time in 10 years. The film will also include new interviews with contemporary artists inspired by Claremont’s work, including Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, and Chris Bachalo.
The film will be produced by the same team behind the critically-acclaimed documentaries Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods and Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts. It is directed by Patrick Meaney and produced by a partnership between Sequart Research & Literacy Organization and Respect Films.
If successful, it will be the first in a new series of short-form documentaries offering in-depth looks at significant works that shaped comics history, using interviews with the people who helped shape it. These documentaries will be approximately 45 minutes long and released through direct download and online DVD sales, allowing us to tackle important subjects that don’t fit into the high-profile, feature-length format.
We have turned to Kickstarter to help fund this project. This is your chance to support discussion about the merits of comics and to document the stories of the people who have shaped contemporary pop culture.
Rewards include the documentary as a DVD and a digital download, thanks and other credits in the film, and digital access to extra interview footage not included in the film. They also include books and feature-length films from Sequart's library, including:
•the feature film Grant Morrison: Talking with Gods
•the feature film Warren Ellis: Captured Ghosts (recently released)
•the feature film Diagram for Delinquents: Fredric Wertham and the Evolution of Comic Books (this item won't ship with rest of rewards and will ship separately later in 2012)
•the book Mutant Cinema: The X-Men Trilogy from Comics to Screen
•the book Our Sentence is Up: Seeing Grant Morrison's The Invisibles (by director Patrick Meaney)
•the book Grant Morrison: The Early Years
•the book Keeping the World Strange: A Planetary Guide (including an essay by Meaney)
•the book Minutes to Midnight: Twelve Essays on Watchmen (including an essay by Meaney)
•the book Teenagers from the Future: Essays on the Legion of Super-Heroes
•the book Improving the Foundations: Batman Begins from Comics to Screen

Conclusion
You're already convinced, right?
Don't just sit there, head on over and give up a bit of cash for what will be a very informative and fantastic documentary. This will include plenty of cool heads talking about some legendary stories, and you can get your toe into it just by saying you'll support it. Have you pledged to it, what incentive did you choose? Have you supported other comic ventures online, which ones and why? Let us know with some chatter in the comments.

Thanks SO much for posting this, Mr. Lindsay! What a nice write-up!
I'd like to add that this is just the FIRST in a series of these shorter documentaries. The series is called COMICS IN FOCUS, and we're keeping an open ear to suggestions on what subjects to tackle next.
How about a doc on, say, PREACHER or Charles Burns? Frank Miller's run on DAREDEVIL or Paul Chadwick / CONCRETE?
Let us know!
