Post-Crisis Comic Book Previews for 11/30/11

Oh five week months, you make for a rather short round of Post-Crisis Previews.  There's not a ton on any company's list to round of November, but I've still managed to ferret out a handful of books that have piqued my interest.  We have some familiar faces, like Daredevil #6 and Skullkickers #12, but there's some newer titles mixed in as well, including the relaunch of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, so hit that jump to see all that we've got on tap this week!

DAREDEVIL #6

Grant: So that's a lot of caps up there, but I'm hard pressed to say that it isn't pretty well warranted.  Mark Waid's Daredevil has been one of the most impressive books on stands since it launched back in August.  Whether it's Paola Rivera or Marcos Martin on art, the book is beautiful, and Waid has been writing the heck out of Matt Murdock's continuing adventures.  To make things even better, I totally didn't immediately realize that the villain introduced last issue is just a straight-up luchador, but he is, and that's awesome.  Can't wait.

GREEN WAKE #7

"LOST CHILDREN," Part Two
Morley is haunted by ghosts of his past that force him to face his fears about Green Wake. Violent unrest seizes the citizens of the once sleepy town and Morley is forced to choose a place to stand in the deepening social divide.

Grant: Originally slated as a 5 issue limited-series, I'm real glad that Image decided to extend Green Wake up to issue #25 (if I remember that correctly).  Kurtis J. Wiebe is writing some pretty challenging stuff, Riley Rossmo is more than keeping up with some equally trippy stuff when it comes to the art side of things, and I'm happy to see that the book will get even more time to flourish.

This issue is another righteous Skullkicking short story cavalcade by killer comic talent JOELCARROLL (Flight),MIKE LUCKAS,BEN MCSWEENEY (Joe is Japanese),JOE NG (Street Fighter IV),HOWARD TAYLER (Schlock Mercenary),ZACH WEINER (Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal), JIM DEMONAKOS & KYLE STEVENS (Kirby Krackle) and JIM ZUB (that SKULLKICKERS comic thing).

Grant: Oh man.  I love Skullkickers, I love anthologies, and I loved the first Skullkickers anthology after the initial story arch, so I have a pretty good feeling when it comes to this one.  It also doesn't hurt that Zach Weiner of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal fame is writing one of the stories.  Sign me up for that, because it's going to be hilarious.

SPACEMAN #2

Grant: I wasn't entirely won over by the opening issue of Spaceman, but I wasn't turned off either.  There's some real strong dystopian sci-fi going on here, and I generally have a hard time saying no to that.  Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso would have to produce some real mediocrity to get me off this book, which I don't see as particularly likely at this point.  So barring any major disappointments, I will probably be on board for the long run.  I hope I didn't jinx it by saying that...

THUNDER AGENTS #1

One of the most critically acclaimed series of the past year returns with a new #1 issue that serves as a great jumping-on point for new readers!

Grant: I really dug Nick Spencer's work on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents before the relaunch.  It's the actually the first comic I've read by him, and in my opinion, was some of his best work.  I've felt that some of the stuff he's done apart from it has varied in quality, but I hope he can bring the same intrigue and excitement to this min-series that he did to the initial series.  My main complaint last time around was when Spencer lost CAFU, and seeing that he's not back, I hope that this Wes Craig fellow can be a capable follow-up.  We shall see.
