Brian K Vaughan At SDCC With Image

Did you read the title? It's Brian K Vaughan, at San Diego Comic Con, this year, with Image. I'm surprised I can even tap the keys in sequence correctly because I'm so excited. Brian K Vaughan has been missing from comics for some time now. Not exactly decades, but certainly a few years. Having him come back to a comic con is big news but as the guest of Image Comics hopefully portents some new and very exciting things. What those things are, well, we might need to wait until Saturday to find out. I'll certainly be glued to all the usual comic news sources to see what floats up. Hit the jump to get more specific details.

The news came from informative website, It Sparkles!, and the deatils for the panel are as such:

SATURDAY, JULY 23 - ROOM 7AB

3:00 - 4:00 PM CREATOR-OWNED COMICS WITH ROBERT KIRKMAN

Image Comics partner and best selling writer Robert Kirkman (THE WALKING DEAD) is joined by Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson and some very special guests to discuss the exciting present and future possibilities of creator-owned comics. Be one of the first to hear some major announcements from the leading publisher of creator-owned comics. Plus: exclusive print for first 100 attendees!

There are going to be major annuoncements. Why else would BKV be there except to announce something new? He's never had a big relationship with Image previously, he usually worked with DC and Marvel, so it must be something new. Right?

If this works out, and BKV announces some kind of new comic through Image, it will officially be my favourite news of the whole con. Hands down. I've been quite vocal about my desire to see BKV come back into the fold. The wait might be over...

If, however, this is all one big smoke screen and it's just BKV saying 'Hi' then I'm going to call shenanigans and tear down temples around me, ha.

For those who don't know, Brian K Vaughan is the masterful writer responsible for Y: The Last Man and Ex Machinca, as well as Runaways and Logan from Marvel, and the Pride of Baghdad as an OGN through Vertigo. He is my favourite writer in the world and I'll be buying whatever he decides to write - which has been hard to do because when Ex Machina finished he disappeared from the comic scene. He has written for TV's LOST and then got another show in some sort of development, and was also shopping a feature film script, but mostly he's been off the radar for a while.

Let's hope this Saturday puts him back on everyone's radar.

Conclusion

This better not be some sort of sneaky trick. I don't care if it's just a one-shot, I want me some more BKV comics. What do you think about Brian K Vaughan being at an Image panel? Let us know in the comments.

I love BKV. I'm currently getting my hands on all things Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina.

However, I did get the chance to read "Logan", and I gotta say...I didn't like it. At all. From what I read, I shouldn't even bother with his Batman stuff as well.

Oh well, Image means creator-owned, and I'm happy! :)

Well, it does seem like a good match (though part of me really wishes that DC could have found a way to get something from him at Vertigo).

But my enthusiasm for Image has been tempered by the really long waits for Nonplayer and Infinite Vacation. I worry that I will run out and buy something by BKV and end up waiting six months for the next issue. Image is a really important company, but they have to do something about the gaps.
