Cover of the Week - G.I. Joe, Gates of Gotham, Uncanny X-Force & Batman and Robin

Welcome to a completely Rapture-Free edition of Cover of The Week. The world didn't end as some had predicted, but if it had, we can say for sure that these would have been the best covers to grace the stands on that final hour. Hit the jump to see the winners.

Ryan L.'s Covers of the Week - G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #166 by Ron Wagner

Ryan L.: Imagine you are a child of the 80s, as I am. Now put yourself into any LCS browsing the racks and you suddenly see this one being all awesome and winking at you. Shipwreck was always the stupidest looking character but he also stood out because of his individualism and ended up bieng entirely iconic despite the goofy Village People vibe of his outfit. To see him on a cover today sends my heart all a-flutter and I dig that completely. Chalk this choice up as a completely nostalgic one, and one I don't regret. Golden.

Kirk's Cover of the Week - Batman: Gates of Gotham #1 by Trevor McCarthy

Kirk: Picked this issue up on a lark because I went to the shop and discovered I actually didn't have any books on my pull list releasing this week.  Not wanting to go home empty handed, I went through the racks and it was this cover that caught my attention over everything else available.  Love the framing and extra details that make up this cover. Could very easily become cluttered and a detriment to catching ones attention, but McCarthy found a perfect balance on this one.

Matt's Cover of the Week - Uncanny X-Force #10 by Esad Ribic

Matt: There's something very intimate about this cover. It feels like we have just walked into a vampire, about to strike into his victim. It's a very simple yet effective cover wonderfully rendered by Ribic.

Ken's Cover of the Week - Batman & Robin #23 by Guillem March

Ken: This cover works both as an homage to Batman & Robin #1, but also on its own with how well it uses the "less is more" motto. The single color background is back, which really makes it pop both on screen and on the new release rack, and you've got all you need to know about the issue right there: Jason Todd aka The Red Hood is going to show up.

Runner-Ups: Amazing Spider-Man #661, Generation Hope #7, The Spirit #14
