The Eisner nominations are out for the 2011 awards and they are certainly interesting. Where 2010 seemed to have plenty of Big Two top talent this year is much more independent. Throughout this week, we’re going to discuss each of the main sections of the awards, offer some suggestions for those who missed out, and then open up the floor for you all to have your say. Right now we’re looking at Best Limited Series. Let's get into it.
Best Limited Series
Baltimore: The Plague Ships, by Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, and Ben Stenbeck (Dark Horse)
Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love, by Chris Roberson and Shawn McManus (Vertigo/DC)
Daytripper, by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá (Vertigo/DC)
Joe the Barbarian, by Grant Morrison and Sean Murphy (Vertigo/DC)
Stumptown, by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth (Oni)
What They Got Right
Daytripper. Do I even need to explain why? This isn’t just the best comic of the past year but it’s one of the greatest comic stories of all time. When you can capture the human condition so beautifully in a comic, and then replicate such emotional perfect for 10 straight months then you deserve every award you can possibly be granted. I want to say it’s a lock but there’s some very strong competition on the ballot. It feels like nearly any title could be in the running for this one, and such a fair fight means comics are in a pretty good place.
Stumptown might not win but it certainly warrants the attention. This crime comic was unlike anything else and in just four issues it dropped plenty of character, violence, and awesome on its audience.
What They Got Wrong
Could S.W.O.R.D. have been retroactively been placed into this category? Even still, would it have really knocked anyone else off the ballot?
Conclusion
These are just some thoughts on the Eisner nominations for this category. We’d love to hear what you think so please add any thoughts or comments down below.

Doomwar being ignored is a shame.
Daytripper is the front runner, but that Cinderella mini series was really fun and kind of sold me on Roberson as a writer. If either win I'd be happy.
Daytripper completely deserves it; it was one of the best books of 2010 and it was remarkably consistent all throughout
Penny for Your Soul was a good title. It hasn't wrapped up yet so not sure if it qualifies. Same with Whispers in the walls. Funny that they snub Morrison on everything else but nominate his book JTB in the place of Day Tripper.
