Tim Callahan and Chad Nevett both write for Comic Book Resources, and they also produce the Splash Page Podcast. In the most recent episode, #43, Tim discusses having just read the entirety of Secret Warriors and S.H.I.E.L.D. (as they both stand so far). I assume he's going to write an article about this tome of secret history as written by Jonathan Hickman but one quote stood out to me and you can read it above.
I really hope people don't take the Aspergers element into any negative context, and I understand that the spectrum of Autism is incredibly wide and not something to be scoffed at, but I think this quote really states a truth that makes sense, in a very general way. But, please, we mean no offense and I'm certain Tim didn't either.
I have been a fan of Hickman's S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury based work but more recently have found myself slowly slipping away from my once fervent love. This quote very closely explains why. Have you been reading much of Hickman's work? If so, what do you think of this quote?

I have Aspergers and when I was a kid I wrote a story that was just a bad fan fiction merging of the Time Tunnel and The Tripods. So I'm not exactly sure what is meant by the sort of story writen by an Aspergers kid, unless they mean pedanticism and attention to detail.
Yeah, that level of connectedness and intricate detail, but kind of missing the social connections that give a narrative heart. He doesn't literally mean the story you wrote as a kid.

As someone who's really unfamiliar with aspergers, but having read Secret Warriors I wouldn't argue with that being what it means.
The series is incredibly complex, and I get the feeling that there's a lot going on that is suppose to be more apparent that I'm not even aware of. The most recent issue seems to have brought the SHIELD series he's working on into the mix somehow, but as someone who isn't reading SHIELD (the first issue just didn't do it for me, and I've seen little reason to start reading it since then), I'm not sure if I completely understood all of what's going on.
To be honest, I wonder if Hickman's writing isn't too smart for its own good, so to speak.
I have enjoyed SECRET WARRIORS through its whole run, though it's naturally had some ups and downs. I think, though, that the tone of the series has shifted considerably. Early on, the focus was on Nick Fury and his White Team. We got to know Quake and Slingshot and Stonewall and Hellfire, etc. Once the action started (and now that the White Team is seemingly done), the focus is not on characters really, but on information. Yet, I see hope for a return to earlier times in the relationships among the Zodiac members, especially Fury and Kraken.
Hickman's writing kind washes over me. It's kinda like how I feel when I read a Grant Morrison book. I can see some cool ideas going on there but I don't feel anything reading it. I get absolutely nothing out of the experience. I don't feel like the book was bad, but I can't say it was good either for whatever reason.
And that bothers me. At least I can get riled up reading stuff I dislike. It's not a lack of emotion either, I can really enjoy or dislike bloodless writing. It's just something about Hickman's writing that just doesn't click with me.
