Remember the above teaser image? We talked about it a while back and everyone threw out their best guesses as to who Norman Osborn's secret weapon that was keeping his Cabal in line really was. Well, previews for next week's Dark Avengers are up at SuperPouvoir.com and it's not anyone on the above image. If the previews aren't just misdirection, it's exactly who you think it is. In case you don't feel like clicking the above image for the text, it's the Void. Got to love leaving out such an important scenes from way back in Dark Avengers #3. Hiding things from the reader by changing scenes instead of actually dealing with it is a much better solution. *Yawn*
Anyways, what do you think? Is it actually the Void or just more misdirection? Having it revealed in previews like this seems kind of anticlimactic after all the build up.

I really love your cynicism toward what is a classic fiction move. Good writers do this all the time. Even Geoff Johns, who isn't a good writer, does it. But we heap praise when he does it. "Previously unknown scene or character trait." Classic.

All I have to say is that now I get the Osborn=Tommy Lee Jones comments I've seen about Deodato's art since he started on Thunderbolts. Never really saw it till now.
@Anonymous - Adding to the past and buidling upon something from 60 years ago isn't the same as leaving out the continuation of a conversation between two characters 10 issues ago.
Youre telling me you can't see the difference between, say, expanding Bucky's origin with new and well thought out information compared to just ending a conversation between Norman and Sentry 10 issues ago and giving the rest of it now so it canbe a "big reveal"?
That is not good storytelling and that is not what other writers do. Let's have a story start with Spider-Man telling Aunt May he's dying and then change scenes. We'll spend a year debating how he's dying, when he'll die, etc and hten we have a flashback showing that he goes on to tell her "dying to buy you a new hat". Not really good storytelling, now is it?

I dunno, I tend to agree that this is pretty standard comic fare - structure wise - and have no problem with it. I'm relatively pleased, actually.
Reminds me of the kind of off camera conversations Claremont did leading up to Inferno. Villains are always talking about things we don't find out until later - and this was most definitely a scene between two villains.
Wait, I thought Cyclops trapped Void in his head back in Uncanny X-Men. Or am I missing something?

There is no way that what Bendis will end up doing with the Sentry/Void was "The Plan" from the beginning. Hell, Dark Avengers #13 could blatantly contradict Might Avengers #14, which was an Secret Invasion tie-in. Bendis wanted to use the Sentry but, as it now seems, had no idea what to do with the character until recently.
I have to agree that this was stupid and frustrating. I didn't even think it was a mystery when that Secret Invasion: Dark Reign issue came out. It seemed pretty clear it would be the Void. I changed my mind when the Cabal special came out and they still wouldn't show who it was. I figured it'd have to be something better than the obvious choice if they were waiting so long. But no.
wait, so, this entire time in the Dark Avengers, it's been Osborn controlling the Void who's controlling the Sentry? and to do this he gave him a little miracle juice? do I have this right?
I want to blame PREVIEWS and the like for ruining (barely) reveals like this, but what happened to the days when comic companies would release preview images with the reveals blocked out?
In the last few months I've had BLACKEST NIGHT's villian revealed early, the identity of Twilight in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (which I've managed to remain ignorant of for its 3 year run) and now the Norman Secret Weapon (which, granted, isn't a surprise but still....).
These companies (DC, Dark Horse and Marvel) put so much into these build-ups and ruin them with terrible marketing. I'm not that upset with the Marvel one simply because it was obvious from the beginning (would have been more surprising for it to be anyone other than the Void) and the BLACKEST NIGHT reveal was a little anti-climactic (I've read one comic with Nekron in it in 25 years prior to this) but the BUFFY reveal really bothered me (I won't ruin it for anyone else who managed to stay away from the spoilers). I invest a lot of money into these stories...I'd appreciate if these companies would respect that and be a little smarter with their promotions.

Here's an idea for those complaining about previews and spoilers ruining ther reading experience: Don't read them! I actually enjoy the previews as they are. If I want to not risk getting a spoiler for a book I just don't check the previews that month or read the threads on forums.
Kirk, do you ever do anything aside from bitch about Bendis for utilizing film tropes in his comics?
Because all of your reviews of Bendis seem like childish fanboy attacks instead of critical breakdowns of what elements of his writing works and what doesn't.

The only Bendis comic I've been reading lately has been Dark Avengers, which I've actually given fairly favourable reviews to, and now the event, Siege, which, while I didn't like, I pointed out was actually a perfect execution of the macro event format that both Secret Invasion and Blackest Night have utilized.
Other than that, I've made no secret my love of his Daredevil, Alias, Powers (though I haven't gotten back into it since all the delays to the end of the last volume) and others.
However, I do have negative opinions of his work attimes, but can't recall the film tropes part. Please, feel free to elaborate, possibly with an example so I can see what you mean.
