After unloading over a dozen books last week, Marvel and DC have given my wallet a breather with a relatively light week. However, it seems both companies saved their big guns for the Canada Day releases. Biggest mover and shakers are obviously Captain America: Reborn and Batman and Robin. There's also War of Kings and Green Lantern Corps. Speaking of Canada Day, I'm not sure if comics will be shipping out for me on Wednesday with the holiday and all, so reviews may or may not be delayed until Thursday when the shop reopens.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #2Written by Grant Morrison

"Batman Reborn" continues with the reteaming of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely (ALL-STAR SUPERMAN, WE3, New X-Men)! In a blazing Gotham City police department, the new Batman and Robin face the bizarre, fighting freakshow that is the Circus of Strange and find that they don't make as good a team as Batman had hoped! Meanwhile, the mysterious Sasha escapes from Professor Pyg and vows vengeance on the people who killed her father.
Kirk: Was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first issue of Grant Morrison's return to a Batman title after how much I disliked the latter half of his previous run. Looking forward to seeing what he does with Dick and Damian in this second outing.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: REBORN #1Written by Ed Brubaker

Following the events of Captain America #600, Steve Rogers’ closest friends and allies may have found a way to bring back the original Captain America. Or is what they found something more sinister? The Red Skull’s greatest plan to destroy Captain America has been in motion and its completion is almost at hand. Will Captain America be lost forever or will he be REBORN?
Kirk: It seems like only yesterday we knew nothing about this series and now it's already here. Not sure how I feel about that. The lackluster reveal in Captain America #600 and sour taste after all that media attention a few short weeks ago has kind of killed any excitement for this issue. Oh, who am I kidding? It's by Ed Brubaker with art from Bryan Hitch. I know I'll love it the minute I get my hands on it, but the actual project doesn't have me all that thrilled just yet.
FANTASTIC FOUR #568Written by Joe Ahearne & Mark Millar

The penultimate chapter of THE MASTER OF DOOM, as Reed Richards is offered a Solomon’s choice by the triumphant Marquis of Death!
Kirk: What's with Joe Ahearne being credited for co-writing with Mark Millar? Seems like an odd time to bring on a collaborator. Quick Google search lists Ahearne as a British writer/director for shows such as Dr Who. Curiouser and curiouser.
GREEN LANTERN CORPS #38Written by Peter J. Tomasi
Art by Patrick Gleason and Rebecca Buchman
"Emerald Eclipse" hits its shocking conclusion leading directly into BLACKEST NIGHT. The sciencell riot causes a new law to be doctored into the Book of Oa as Kyle and Guy fight against it. What fate awaits the honor guards, and who will be left standing from the riot that shook Oa to its core?
Kirk: New law is no feeding the mogwai Red Lanterns after dark. Those gremlins can cause riots in the sciencells. Alternate law is to keep them away from water.
MARVEL DIVAS #1Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

Kirk: Egads, what is this doing on my pull list? After a marketing 101 failure when introducing this book the first time, I had all but forgotten about this much maligned series. Recent previews for it have actually restored some faith in the project and Zonjic's art looks great, as always, so I'm going to be giving this first issue a shot to see what's what. Solicit is still horrible, though. Just who is Marvel marketing this towards?
SECRET SIX #11Written by Gail Simone

A former Wonder Woman is now a slave? That's just the first shock as the Secret Six face a new enemy with a heart of ice and an entire country at his command! All this plus the return of Mockingbird! WAR OF KINGS #5Written by Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning

Kirk: Ignore the IGN quote. This event is amazing and you don't need to be a sci-fi or fantasy fan to enjoy it. You just have to like good stories. Simple as that.

Marvel Divas? I know what you mean. That preview looked pretty good, though. Marvel delivers with the occasional quirk book, so I'll probably give it a shot.
Batman and Robin, GLC, Secret Six are definitely on the list, but JLA: Cry for Justice might get some attention if reviews are good.
Captain America: Reborn, and War of Kings on the marvel pull list. I might pick up FF if the reviews are solid, and UXM seems to be getting better. Reading Namor is good comics.
Millar was in the hospital for a while so he got Joe to help him finish off the series.
Kirk, are you passing on Justice League: Cry for Justice?
Justice League: Cry for Justice does look great.
@Eric - Ya, I'll be passing on Cry for Justice. Have no interest in it and previews just seem off to me. Hal sounds exactly like he did when possessed by Parallax talking about how they do nothing while villains go off and kill people and hurt their loved ones. If I hear good things, I might pick it up, but the whole premise just seems forced to me.
I was down for Cry for Justice until I saw the previews. Not only does the character work bore me, the art is simply horrendous.
I, too, will be picking up Marvel Divas, I think. It sounded ridiculously horrible, but I'm warming up to the previews and I feel like I'm being dared to read it by all the other bloggers out there.

As someone that read and loved Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, I'm not going to feel ashamed over reading a book like Marvel Divas. I feel worse any time I walk home with some T&A filled book or porn faced Greg Land offering, actually.

I live in Canada, and the store I buy my comics from had a sign saying that because of Canada day, new comics would be arriving on July 2
@kirk it's more the description of it that i find demeaning and anti-feminist (the previews blown that ou of the water somewhat) so that's the basis of any shame.
also Greg Land managed to pull me away from uncanny for his recent run... ugh... it was just that bad
