Being someone that enjoys when Hank Pym gets dissed, my moment of the week was seeing scans of Reed Richards verbally bitch slapping Pym in this week's Mighty Avengers #25. My anti-moment, or moment of the weak, has to be anything Jeph Loeb wrote in Ultimatum #4. I facepalm everytime I flip through it at the shop or see scans online.
Hit the jump to see these moments and more!
Namor and Namora are the 'hillbillies under the sea' in question since they are cousins. However, as other scans showed, they are not genetic cousins, so it's allllll good. GiggityAmazing Spider-Man #596
As juvenile as it is, I found Bullseye flicking boogers at a rat while Spider-Man and Invisible Woman beat the crap out of Venom pretty funny.Batman and Robin #1
This is just one instance of the special effects being spelled out in the artwork. There were several like it, but I just wanted to show it off for those that didn't pick up the issue so they could see what I was talking about in my review.
Dick's Tim Drake put down to Damian aside, anyone else get an All Star Batman and Robin feeling from these car sequences? Just reminded me of the 'are you dense, are you retarded' car scenes with Batman driving the young Dick Grayson home, minus the hilarious Frank Miller-isms, for some reason.Captain Britain and MI13 Annual #1
After a jaunt around Hell for 15 or so pages, Meggan ends up being saved by Dr Doom. It looks like Doom is on one of Dracula's ships and his line about flying to the Moon seems to imply Doom is either helping Dracula or going to try and stop him for some reason. If you recall, Dracula had made a pact with Doom in the opening of this Vampire State storyline, so I'm curious to see if Doom will be playing a bigger part in the ending to that story.Dark Avengers #4
Love how Moonstone has a giant picture of herself above her bed, but I didn't agree with anything else Bendis did in this scene. 1) Moonstone has never been shown to be as...promiscuous...as Bendis is writing her with regards to her advances on Marvel Boy and 2) why is Marvel Boy a goddamn idiot? He really had no clue they were villains? One guy is always talking about killing people and another contiuously tries to or mentions his desire to eat people and their brains, among other things. If they didn't wear costumes, no one would be able to tell half the characters are who Bendis claims they are. Mighty Avengers #25
I loved how casual Reed was with the 'hate it when that happens' bit. Disappointed by the focus of the scene being an underaged, but over developed teenage ass shot and the other focus point being some kind of weird sex robot with a broken back.
I'm stature spitting my coffee out when I saw this scan. Oh snap, indeed, Cho. Secret Six #10
Aw, that's so sweet. Wait a minute. *rereads last panel* Back away from the ledge, Deadshot. Slowly.
If I was an immortal lesbian with daddy issues and just got shot, Bane is the daddy figure I would want, too. Just saying.Ultimatum #4
Aw, Jeph Loeb, only you could put a character in an event that had never appeared in a previous issue, introduce a villain that had not appeared in that form in any other issue to my knowledge and then have him kill the character off in so ignanimous a way. Shock value for the win.
Speaking of shock value, here's Angel getting maimed. Blob wasn't around to get some eating in, so they just substituted Sabretooth in.
Did someone say maiming? I'm sure someone mentioned it. There isn't a single thing right about this double page spread, from the ridiculous posing of Valkyrie to Magneto trying to swing a hammer instead of just taking her sword from her or using his powers to blast her away to the shock value of having Magneto's arm cut off. War of Kings #4
Now, I said Lilandra is dead, but this is the only real 'kill shot' we were given, so I suppose it's possible she gets put in a bio chamber or is only in a coma or some other comic book explaination for not being dead. Hell, Robin had a meter long batarang stabbed into his chest in Battle for the Cowl and it turned out to be only a flesh wound, so Lilandra could be perfectly fine. However, all that said, I'm still thinking she's dead.

The Moonstone/Marvel Boy scene was alright to me. Karla has been seducing Noh-var since last issue, and she obviously is playing him. What she wants from him, however, I don't know.
About Marvel Boy, however, I never read anything about the character before that Illuminati mini. I don't know him, so I can't be upset, but so far everyone who seems to know the character has also expressed concern about the way Bendis' handling him.
And no shot of Ares slapping Bullseye. I love when someone puts Bullseye in his place.
Yeah, "If I hit you, you'd be broken" was the line of the week for me from Dark Avengers.
That book is getting better, i think.
I really, REALLY hope that Marvel Boy's knee poking up from under the sheets.
Don't tell me the Kree is at an evolutionary dead-end when you're carrying that much in their Y-fronts.
Haha, oh wow. Magneto got his arm cut off by a METAL sword? Magneto, who has gone up against the X-Men and Ultimates by himself gets defeated by a chick in a bikini with a Final Fantasy sword? Fuck Loeb, he is such a hack.
I'd just like to point out that Doom should really refer to himself as Roma. My understanding is they don't really like being called Gypsies.
As for Osborne going on and on about being innocent, I could handle him using the 'I was sick before' defence but when he starts talking about being saved by God I was going "Oh, come on"
Hey by the way. I'm back to my normal computer but I'm still getting the operation aborted error when I post a comment. Guess it wasn't my laptop after all.
"As for Osborne going on and on about being innocent, I could handle him using the 'I was sick before' defence but when he starts talking about being saved by God I was going "Oh, come on""
Osborn is just presenting himself as any major American political figure would. It makes perfect sense for him to say that if he is trying to get accepted by the American people and counter Barton's accusations.
In regards to Moonstone/Ms. Marvel's promiscuity, I believe in an issue of Ellis' run on Thunderbolts, she mentioned she had an appointment to have casual sex with a dockworker in their base (Thunderbolts Mountain?)
Also, i'm not trying to defend Loeb, but if you could actually pick up Thor's hammer, wouldn't you want to use it? although he could've used his powers to throw it at her, much like he did yonks ago in Ultimate War, against Captain America.
Yeah I remember that bit with the dockworker.
I just thumbed through the Ultimatum issue, and it really was weak. Spent a few pages re-telling this week's ultimate spider-man, but the rest of the issue was: setup for someone to get maimed, someone gets maimed, repeat.
In Dark Avengers though, I may be the last person to notice this, but man Deodato's drawing Osborn with George W. Bush's face a lot. Especially the section where he's thanking god for his second chance (the "and look, look where he put me" panel most of all).
Did you happen to check out Final Crisis Run this week Kirk? That book is so fun i love it
Yeah, I didn't find Moonstone particularly out of character either.
I remember back in Busiek's Thunderbolts, when she and Hawkeye had their thing,it didn't take that long for them to go from first kiss to being caught naked (all-ages comic-book naked, but pretty clear) in the back corridors of that mountain HQ they had at the time.
The only mis-characterization of Moonstone is the throwing out of any steps toward redemption that the character had made in the original series.
Reed Richard dickery was, to be honest, way more out of character.
I look forward to seeing Marvel Boy kick some Dark Avenger butt. That is unless Bendis doesn't write him as the badass that he was when Morrison first wrote him.
Wow. Those pages of ultimatum are really bad.
Also, didn't sabretooth in the ultimate universe have blades like wolverine, but four of them? He just has claws here.
The Illuminati issue with Marvel Boy was a big let down for me. Deicide The Everliving, you should definitely read the Marvel Boy mini-series. He should have just kicked the Illuminati's *sses and been done with it, instead of having Namor beat him senseless (which would have never happened in his mini.)
