Cover of the Week - Authority, Dark Reign: Fantastic Four & Astonishing Tales

We all had different picks for this week's edition of the Cover of the Week. Eric went with Authority #9 for the absurdity of the concepts thrown out on the cover while Matt chose Dark Reign: Fantastic Four #2 for its ability to tell a story. Myself, I went with the unique artstyle and colouring of Astonishing Tales #3. You can take a look at these and our detailed thoughts on each after the jump. Feel free to suggest your own Cover of the Week, as well.

ERIC's COVER OF THE WEEK - AUTHORITY #9

Eric: Roman Centurions. Riding giant Raptors. With WWI fighter plane back up. Awesome. More comics should be like this.

MATT's COVER OF THE WEEK - DARK REIGN: FANTASTIC FOUR #2

Matt: It's a little weird that this cover is by Pasqual Ferry because he used to do a lot of Ultimate Fantastic Four covers. It looks like an Ultimate Universe comic to me, even though it isn't. On the other hand, the cover tells a tale: Reed is too busy with SCIENCE to realize that his family is possibly in danger.

KIRK's COVER OF THE WEEK - ASTONISHING TALES #3

Kirk: The colouring of this cover combined with the scratchy linework really made this cover stand out to me. Spider-Woman jutting her ass out was a little odd, but otherwise very nice looking cover. Loved the classic Iron Man armour used, too. The Extremis version just looks so generic to me for some reason.

Runners-Up: Agents of Atlas #3 (Variant), Secret Warriors #3, The Flash: Rebirth #1

That's actually the "Arno Stark" Iron Man: 2099 armor.

It does look a lot like the original Iron Man armor though.

The notable thing about the 2099 armour is that it appears to have cogwheels on the shoulders. You can just see one in the opening in Spiderwoman's venom blast.

It's actually the Iron Man of 2020. God, you guys.

I don't get why everyone hates (ok, so I've read other comments on line, which is where that statement comes from) the Extremis armor. I always thought it was amazingly slick, and loved it! I'm really worried about where they're going with his armor, and the end of the Extremis virus for Tony. I just hope he doesn't end up with some new, bulky, ugly costume. (And please, I have little hope after seeing Pepper Potts costume. That has to be one of the ugliest Iron Man costumes I have EVER seen. What were they thinking?? Obviously Adi Granov did not design THAT costume. Unfortunately.) Marvel is always messing with something that doesn't need fixing (IMHO.)

@Nathan Aaron - I don't hate the Extremis armour, per se. It looks fine and all, but it doesn't seem to have any personality or flavour that catches my eye. It's just too smooth and sleek for its own good I suppose. I'm actually a big fan of Extremis (the actual Extremis concept, not the armour). Agreed on Iron Maiden or whatever they call Potts' armour. That thing looks like an armoured Molly Maid.
