Stegron the Dinosaur Man and his dinosaur army launch a campaign of destruction across America! With the Fifty State
Initiative in tatters from the fallout of Secret Invasion, Tigra must pull together a squad from the few superhumans still fit for duty, including Cloud 9, Komodo, Prodigy...and a brand new recruit. Be here for the debut of Marvel's newest superstar--
REPTIL! Will he save the Initiative...or ruin it?
Kirk Says: What an odd one-shot. Why didn't they just incorporate it into the monthly Initiative comic? Is there even an Initiative anymore? Stegron the Dinosaur Man? Reptil? Seriously? Oddly, I feel stupid even considering picking this up.

The New Captain America faces the crimes of his past as the Winter Soldier as the Sub-Mariner and the Black Widow struggle to stop a new foe from unleashing a deadly attack on the world! By the best-selling Eisner, Harvey and Eagle award-winning writer Ed Brubaker and artist Butch Guice.
Kirk Says: As good as Captain America always is, this current storyline about a threat from Bucky's past seems to be dragging out quite a bit, as if padding out a story to get us ready for issue fifty. I'm still enjoying the hell out of the book, but it's not nearly as thrilling as it once was right now.

She’s the deadliest woman in the world…and she’s never been in worse shape. Broken, beaten, and tortured by alien scientists, Elektra stumbles to freedom in the aftermath of the Skrull invasion. Now she struggles and fights to stay barely alive, and to clear her name for atrocities committed by an impostor. A LOT of people want Elektra killed…and in her state, that shouldn’t be too difficult…By Zeb Wells (AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) and Clay Mann (DAREDEVIL)!
Kirk Says: I'm curious as to what Marvel has planned for Elektra moving forward after all the Skrull nonsense, so I might pick this issue up. Might.

If Captain Marvel is no more, how is he here? With War of Kings about to explode across the galaxy, two of the Guardians face death itself! Drax and Quasar journey beyond the veil of life in a desperate quest to find Moondragon. But what is waiting for them on the other side, and will it ever let them return? It’s a double shot of cosmic horror – that plants the seeds for where GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is heading next!
Kirk Says: Phyla's new costume looks fantastic, but I doubt she'll keep it, what with it looking evil and all. I'm actually tempted not to even pick this issue up after how terrible last issue was and the fact this continues the dreadfully boring 'afterlife' story to find Moondragon.

As Hera consolidates her takeover of Olympus, marking Hercules and Athena for death, she reaches out to forge an alliance with the greatest mortal power on the planet -- NORMAN OSBORN! With the forces of Heaven and Earth both arrayed against our heroes, how can they possibly survive? And what role does the ex-New Warrior AEGIS play in Hera's mad scheme?
Kirk Says: For some reason, it feels like it's been a long time since the last Hercules issue. Not sure why that is. I feel like a broken record here, but Hercules is one of Marvel's best titles currently. Do yourself a favour and pick it up. This is a good jumping on point as a new story arc is beginning.

WHO IS THE NEW SORCERER SUPREME? Doctor Strange has failed as the Master of the Mystic Arts and all the other mystic characters are the heir apparent. Strange comes to the New Avengers for help as the mystic battle royale begins. Plus, how can the Avengers trust Spider-Man if he won't take his mask off?
Kirk Says: New Avengers has been the most disappointing title coming out of Marvel and easily Bendis' worst work in my eyes, yet I still continue picking it up. Maybe I'll just leave this title on the shelf and pick up something different. $3.99 is just too much for a book I don't even enjoy that much.

War of Kings brings a new status quo...and a new penciler Andrea DiVito (Annihilation)! Who is the new Protector of the Universe? Stripped of his Nova powers and facing death, Rich Rider must stop the Worldmind’s plans before it’s too late. But he needs power to do it, which may come from a source that will change his very identity! It’s another unpredictable episode of the comic Ain’t It Cool News calls “awesomely jaw-droppingly cool stuff.”
Kirk Says: Based on that cover, it looks like the speculations of Richard teaming up with Wendell Vaughn/Quasar are going to turn out to be true. Now we just need a yellow energy construct using corps built around Quasar and everything will be perfect.

Is Darkhawk ready to embrace his new role in the cosmos? What drives Chris Powell into unknown territory? What is the truth kept long hidden from him? And what side will he take in the War of Kings? The latest Marvel cosmic star is born here! Plus: a retro blast from the past as we reprint DARKHAWK #2!
Kirk Says: While I've been enjoying most everything War of Kings related so far, this Darkhawk two-parter hasn't done much for me so far. It felt more like Cebulski wrapping up a few Loners subplots while pushing the character into position for War of Kings instead of a story being given to us on its own merits. I'll still pick the second part up, but I'm not even sure if I'll review it or not.

The birth of a single mutant child forever changed the landscape of the X-Universe. Some see the baby as the last hope for mutankind’s survival; others see it as the bringer of the Apocalypse… No one knows which side is right because Cyclops handed the newborn over to Cable, believing his son could save both the child and mutantkind. But Cable never came back. Now, months later, Cyclops has found his son hiding in the FUTURE... and he’s sending in the one team that will do what needs to be done in order to ensure the survival of their species... X-FORCE. The X-Men event of the decade, “MESSIAH COMPLEX,” continues here as the past, present and future converge in the pages of X-FORCE and CABLE. Continues next month in the pages of CABLE #13 and X-FORCE #14!
Kirk Says: What say you all? Should I give this event a shot with the prologue? As I mentioned earlier, there isn't much on the menu this week, so I should be able to fit some random titles in. Let me know if you guys want me to review this or not and I'll see about picking it up.

No Oracle? You did see that preview didn't you? You do realize that DC is revamping its entire lineup of titles, and Barbara Gordon's change starts here.
Zeb Wells never writes anything that is bad bad and the preview looked good so I recommend DR: Elektra.
DARK REIGN: ELEKTRA # 1 had a decent preview on Newsarama. I chuckled at the Hawkeye bit.
I'm going to join the choir here and ask for Dark Reign: Elektra. I find the premise of it intriguing and am curious to see how she handles escaping and getting underground despite the apparent extent of her injuries.
If you are gonna stop picking up New Avengers, I suggest you try out The Goon.
Just funny beat em up fun.
I second u picking up Oracle and Elektra. Oracle Looks to be really good and probably sets up Batgirl and the Elektra preview was decent. Also I suggest u pick up Superman 686. Based on ur other 3 Superman reviews u should give this a shot like I am.
I'd like to see you check out Messiah War, I know you're not a huge fan, but I don't know, the 90's X-Force fan in me is really interested to see Stryfe's return in such a strange and ultra violent setting. Have there been any previews for post-MW crossover issues of X-Force or Cable? I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict Stryfe killing Domino, it seems to add up with her randomly coming out of the woodwork to join X-Force shortly before this X-over.
You should pick up A:TI featuring Reptil. The preview was good, the concept is hilarious, and the last time Gage and Uy did a story introducing a new character, in issue 13 with Butterball, it was really good.
I'm excited for the "Mon" of Steel!
I'd say check out Messiah War for sure. Looks good.
Messiah War. Kyle & Yost. Mike Choi. Domino. Deadpool. Need I go on?
I'm gonna say you should pick up the Initiative one-shot, for selfish reasons. Out of the four, I think it's the one I, and most others, would be least likely to pick up. It could be a surprisingly fun book, though, and at least we'll see Cloud 9 again. Since all the books are $3.99, it'd be nice to know if we could drop that kind of money on this versus another Dark Reign tie-in, event/crossover book, or Bendis phone-in.
Consensus is in. Looks like I'll be picking up Dark Reign Elektra and Messiah War Prologue. Ill be leaving New Avengers on the shelf in favour of those two and for the Reptil special, I'll check it at the shop before making a decision to buy it or not.
As for the Oracle and Mon-El issues from DC, I'll take a peak at them, but I"m not sure if I'll get them.
Oracle and her 'hacker battles' have been painful for me to read (most likely due to my experience in Computer Science) and I'm kind of dreading seeing her get 'cured' if they do go that route.
For Mon-El's story, while I"m kind of interested, Ive disliked everything Robinson has done on Superman that I've read so far and don't foresee that changing anytime soon.
HOwever, like I said, I'll take a peak at them at the shop on Wednesday before outright refusing to pick them up. If I like what I see, I'll try and take one of them home.
Definitely a weird one shot for the Initiative. Is this a new character? I don't remember it being mentioned at all. Even if they had not put it as part of the regular ongoing, it would have probably sold better as annual.
With that cover & the sorta-return of the original Quasar, this might make the first Nova I've purchased in a year. The title started off good enough (especially with the first year of Granov covers), but the storylines just kept dragging out during Annihilation: Conquest, and this whole Nova Corps thing hasn't improved the pacing at all. I hope the Corps gets blown up real good & Richard Rider is the only one left at the end. The idea of a Fin Fang Foom relative being a Nova Corpsman just strikes me as unnecessary. (The current art doesn't help either. Blech!)
No Battle for the Cowl Commissioner Gordon one shot? Looks good to me.
Also, are you not reading Madame Xanadu? It's a great series, feels like Vertigo's next sleeper hit for sure.
I was actually unfamiliar with either of hte creative team members for the Commissioner Gordon one shot and hadnt heard anything good or bad about the book, so balked at it in favour of other titles.
As for Madame Xanadu, I'm waiting for some trades for it, as I do with most of my indy/Vertigo related stuff. I know it probably hurts the books in terms of survivability, but I just prefer those types of stories in the trade format. I love the artwork and premise of Xanadu, though, so will definitely be picking it up one of these days in trade.
Captain America and Daredevil, Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova. Dropped Tbolts and Fantastic Four. Considering a bunch of minis, mostly X-related or Cosmic stuff. That's the Marvel stuff.
Going to pick up Battle of the Cowl - Commisioner Gordon, Oracle, and Superman. I'm not sure how either of the bat titles will fair, but Superman has done nothing but impress.
