I'm not here to accuse
John Romita Jr of swiping his own images or anything ridiculous like that. I'm just sharing something that had bugged me about the
Anti-Venom image. From the minute I first saw it, I knew I had seen something similar from JRJr before and I finally found it with this
Spider-Carnage image from back when
Ben Reilly was bonded with it.
Obviously, from just looking at it, they are not the same, but I still find the similarities striking and I guess it just goes to show that it's hard for the supposed dynamic poses for these types of reveals to be entirely original, even from the same artists.

plus jrjr is just kind of boring
Mm. I too was under the impression I'd seent hat mouth before, but wasn't sure where...thanks for the help.
Other similarities may occur with the minor 90s villain known as Shadrac.
I'm going to disagree with you on this Kirk.
The poses are different, the proportions are different between the two characters and the Ben Reilly one is out of context in terms of background, situation, etc.
True, there are a few similarities, but that's about it.
I could totally use this as support for the claim that there's nothing new about Brand New Day, but I love Mr. Romita Jr. too much for that.
So I'm going to say that the similarities are due to character rehashing. Venom-esque characters can't help but have similar poses.
Seeing "that mouth" would cause me to make sure i NEVER see it again.
well...it reminded me most the first full appearance of Hobgoblin. The pose is different but the way they're shown is quite similar.
as a artist myself it's understandable how a pose can keep reoccuring. without mentalally blocking out old poses it will happen. plus it's a symbiote, come on cut him a break.
