Comic Book Moments of the Week for 12/28/07

It's that time again. Time for the Comic Book Moments of the Week! Well, actually, this is not really the normal time due to the Christmas delays on the normal shipping days, but its Moments time and that's all that matters. So hit the jump and enjoy!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #545

"Ctrl + C"

No, I'm not responsible for copying and pasting the same panel 9 times in the span of 2 pages and, no, this is not a true moment of the week, but an anti-MotW. Did Joe Q just run out of time on this oft-delayed issue or is this what he passes off as "art" these days?

"Ctrl + V"

Following up on the previous 'moment' is another edition of copy and paste from the E-i-C at Marvel. Not quite up to the 9 duplicate images from earlier, but he manages to work in the resize tool on his splash page so he can copy and paste it 3 more times on the right. Give this man an award.

AVENGERS: INITIATIVE #9

"I know guys who'd pay to die like this..."

Ant-Man's glorious debut was everything his fans (all 3 of us) could hope for. He retained the same charm and wit he had in his own series and I think he's going to do well in Slott's Initiative.

"Oh the humanity! You just stepped on Stingray!"

Another perfect moment from this week's Ant-Man, er, I mean Avengers: Initiative.

"Timber!"

Continuing with the win in this week's Initiative is the debut of Taskmaster, the replacement drill instructor for The Gauntlet. Not to be out done by Ant-Man, he takes a page out of Blue Beetle and Peacemaker's playbook in terms of giant fighting and takes down the supersized annoyances.

"Cause I got a man and if you don't shut up, he'll kick your ass!"

Komodo is probably my favourite new character on the Initiative ever since her encounter with Spider-Man back in issue #3. I really liked the reveal for her big secret, which was along the lines of what I expected for someone that stole the Lizard formula. After the tender moment in the left page, I loved the newfound bravado in the second image. In fact, I loved everyone's expressions and dialogue in that post-Dragon Man fight. Stuff like this is why I read comics.

BATMAN #672

"I'd like whatever he's smoking, please."

Leave it to Grant Morrison to craft the craziest and most bat-shit insane stories. I think he went a little too far with this month's offering, but it was pretty funny seeing Bat-Mite at the end.

COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS #18

"Poor Ray can't catch a break."

This was probably the first "DiDio-ism" (ie. random deaths / personality changes / retarded random occurances / etc) that actually made sense and I should have seen coming. Next week looks interesting based on previews, but I'm not sure DC is going to do much with this.

DAREDEVIL #103

"A History of Violence? Never heard of it."

Matt has had enough with all this Mr Fear bull shit and is done pulling punches with Ox at the end of this week's issue. I wonder if Brubaker will have him actually follow through with this or if it will just be Ox spilling the beans right away. This was probably the only scene from this month's issue that got my blood pumping.

DEATH OF THE NEW GODS #4

"I am your father, Evil Cloud."

Am I honestly supposed to know who or what Giant Glowing Blue Ballman is? He ranks up there with Evil Cloud from a few weeks back in Green Arrow / Black Canary. I've completely lost interest in this series and, at this point, I don't even care who or what Giant Glowing Blue Ballman ends up being.

GREEN LANTERN #26

"Go, go Alpha Lanterns, you mighty Alpha Lanterns!"

This was the only glimpse we got of the Alpha Lanterns in this week's issue despite the fact it was advertised as the first part of the Alpha Lanterns story. Not sure I like the designs. They look fairly evil and very un-Green Lantern-like. Are these guys even alive anymore? It looked like they had their chests cleaned out and a Lantern placed in there. With the various colour based Corps, I hope these Alpha Lanterns don't spawn Beta-, Gamma-, Theta-, Omega-, etc derivatives.

"So DIE!"

Not sure what's going to happen to Laira after she murdered Amon Sur in this scene. He had surrendered and was not putting up any fight. She let her emotions get in the way of doing her job and outright slaughters him. Maybe the Alpha Lanterns will be sent to bring her in? Who knows, but it was a badass moment.

INVINCIBLE PRESENTS: ATOM EVE #1

"I'll buy you some alcohol if you father my child." "Deal!"

I'm not sure if I should be laughing when I find out Atom Eve's mom was a bum the good doctor found in some back alley. Does that make me a bad person or was this supposed to be funny? Either way, I enjoyed it, so it's a moment of the week.

IRON MAN #24

"Now if I can just figure out how to let go and live."

Tony's got balls of iron here as he takes on an Extremis enhanced human with nothing but a helmet and a glove from his old Iron Man armour. I left out the build up scenes to this as you see the guy grimacing as it pans out to reveal Tony with an 'iron' clad grip on the family jewels, but I think this single page should be enough for everyone to get the jist of it.

MARVEL ZOMBIES #3

"Smeck"

This panel just weirds me out everytime I see it. That guy's way too old for her. Oh, and she's a zombie and what not. That's kind of weird too.

THOR #5

"Dear Thor, Loki's alive."

I loved this whole sequence. I just found it hilarious the guy drives out there and puts up a mailbox so they can give Thor an invitation to some cake and ice cream. I don't have the follow up at the end of the issue, but it has a bunch of Asgardians busting into the party asking about the cake.

"PS: He's a girl."

My other caption choice was, "Is that a Mjolnir in your pants or are you just happy to see me, brother.". Not sure how necessary it was to make Loki a female this time, but the new design looks great. She / he sort of bleeds over into Enchantress territory with the whole female aspect now.
"Did someone say Ultimate Alliance?"

Doom is showing up everywhere these days. He's already recruited Namor and all of Atlantis and, with this issue, now he's apparently got all the 'bad' Asgardians under his sway. Is Doom prepping for the Secret Invasion or is he building up for some undisclosed event sometime in the future or is this just something that will play out in the upcoming issues of Thor? Right now, Skrulls are yesterday's news to me. I'd rather know more about DOOM.

X-MEN #206

"We've tried boys. Boys are trouble."

Something about the possibility of hot, blonde, identical lesbian triplets makes me like the Cuckoos a lot more than I used to. All lesbian triplet thoughts aside, this was a fun scene that makes me wish there was some news that New X-Men would be continuing post-Messiah Complex.

"The M stands for Madrox. Or mutant. That works, too."

Um, not sure what this is all about. This would imply Bishop was the one that messed with the Sentinels. However, his future has very little information concerning the past, so how does he know anything about this baby? Maybe the glowing eyes, which I don't recall ever seeing Bishop with, mean something.
