Comic Book Moments of the Week for 12/05/07

It was a great week of comics and, while I didn't get to do as many reviews as I'd like, I think these Comic Book Moments of the Week will more than make up for it. There's a lot of Atomic Robo love in here and I actually had to cut it short or risk posting the entire issue. There's also some stuff from JLA, Ultimate X-Men and a couple others. Hit the jump for all the moments.

EDIT - Brain cramp and left out all the Annihilation: Conquest moments.

ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST #2

"War is ugly. Giant bugs don't help."

I think the artist did an amazing job on this battle between the Phalanx and Annihilus' army. There's tonnes of little detail that most artists would just blur into a big non-descript blob. Also, this scene makes me wish there was an Annihilation real time strategy game with Phalanx, the Resistance and Annihilus' armies for the factions all in the vein of Starcraft. It would be glorious.

"I am Groot!"

Aside from the odd expression on Starlord's face during his little speech, this scene was perfect. Love the reaction from Groot when Starlord compliments him in the first panel. No thank you or anything, just an "I am Groot." as if it was obvious he would do well because he's Groot. The looks on everyones' faces after his speech are perfect and fit the theme of this group to a tee. Great page all around.

"Is Ultron gonna have to kill a bitch?"

Two issues in and Ultron has done more in the two or three panels of Conquest he has been featured in than in the first five issues of Mighty Avengers. If you've been holding off on buying Conquest, you are seriously missing out on some awesome comics.

ATOMIC ROBO #3

"I can read your brainwaves with my fancy robot eyes."

Every single issue of Atomic Robo has been hilarious and this first of several moments from this week's issue continues the trend. There were more moments I could have put up, but I feel like I'd be posting the entire issue, as just about every page has something funny enough to post. One I didn't post was where one guy revealed he majored in solar powered weapons of mass destruction and Robo gives him a stare down. It was hilarious. Buy the book!

"Egypt's enjoyed a long period of not blowing up pyramids."

The last panel caps off this hilarious mission briefing. I believe Egypt actually has a no blowing up pyramids law.

"That's just good advice in any line of work."

At my last job, I got fired for accusing my co-worker of being a mummy, so take this advice with a grain of salt.

COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS #21

"I'm Batman...Beyond."

Not really a huge moment, but Batman Beyond rocked and it was great seeing him appear in Countdown.

"Unicron has arrived."

This was a pretty crazy ending to this week's issue of Countdown. I'm actually interested in the Karate Kid storyline, which is a first for me, so it should be interesting to see what comes of this next week.

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #15

"With a ballpoint pen, I can pick the locks at Fort Knox."

Loved this line. It's so over the top and corny, but in a good way. I'm a sucker for huge splash pages featuring all the heroes, as well. Sorry for the low resolution of the scan, but the quote above is what Batman says in this image.

"And the Bat-God has spoken."

Another great scene with Batman from this week's JLA. His 'request' fits his character perfectly and, while I'm not a big Firestorm fan, if it'll give us more interactions like this scene, I'm all for his forced membership.

MS MARVEL #22

"Machine Manwoman"

Reed needs to stop writing Ms Marvel and do a Machine Man(woman) book. This small cameo almost made up for the rest of this month's less than stellar issue.

ULTIMATE X-MEN #88

"Bow chika wow wow."

I didn't think it was possible, but Kirkman has made an even sluttier White Queen than the 616 version.

"I give you...oblivion."

I'm an Apocalypse fan and anything that reminds me of his earlier days or the Age of Apocalypse is a-okay in my book.

I don't know if you read Invincible but Mark finding William in half of his costume was priceless and definitely one of my top moments of the week.

And you know why she looks sluttier? The Glasses. Obviously.

@justin boatwright - Invincible came out this week? It must have sold out or something at my shop because I didn't see it. Of course, funds were a little short this week with Xmas shopping and what not, which is why there weren't that many reviews this week, but I definitely would have made room for Invincible if I had seen it. I'll look for it this week and maybe do a belated review.

@salieri - Ya, she's got the hot for teacher look and there's also the tiny thong she's wearing.

I was being sarcastic, but now I realise that you can take that seriously. Huh. Go figure.
