Image Round-Up - May 8th 2013

The Image Round Up column aims to get some words down on every single Image Comics book published for the week. These reviews are handled by Hansel Moreno. They'll be dropping non-spoilery reviews the day before the books are available so you can best make up your mind on what to buy tomorrow. We offer this service because Image has been putting out some amazing content lately and it will be nice to shine a light on every single title they produce. This week our intrepid team looks at Prophet #35, The Walking Dead #110, and the collected edition of Comeback.

Prophet #35

Hansel Moreno: Are you ready for an intergalactic war?

Humanity is long gone. A genetically modified force of human like fighters trudge on with their encoded orders, ushered about by giant grotesque "earth mothers". They fight because they are told to fight.

John "Old Man" Prophet has broken from the mind control of the Earth Mothers and is plotting. Gathering old friends and old acquaintances he positions his forces to protect himself from the Mothers and is possible, strike back.

There is another Prophet who is of sound mind. One Armed John has manged to find other John Prophets who are not completely under the thumbs of the Mothers.

The war is fought on many sides. The Mothers and their Prophet armies try to wrest control of many worlds, including earth from varied alien species. Inside their operation their is dissent from many of the unhappy Prophets. On his own side Old Man Prophet fights to, at the very least, be left in peace.

This issue is a revisit back to the first arc (Issue #21- #26 from the relaunch) and we see a Prophet led assault on the towers of Thauilu Vah. Also Old Man Prophet and his crew (disclaimer: not a break dancing crew) meet up with and old friend.

To tell you more than this would really spoil the story. Brandon Graham, Simon Roy, Giannis Milogiannis, Farel Dalrymple and many, many more creators involved in this book have created a generation-, star- and life-spanning epic. The rise and fall of species, empires and war mongers are all here for your reading pleasure.

The Walking Dead #110

Hansel Moreno:  Their is a mole at the hiltop. The chase is on, can Jesus be a savior once more?

If you are not reading Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's survival story you are missing out on some of the best humanizing scenes in comics to date. The fears, the joys, the loss and the victories. 

Adlard captures emotions perfeclty and Kirman knows how to twist the knife. The intro is enough for loyal readers. If you haven't tried this book yet, check out the first trade.

Comeback Trade Paperback Collection

Comeback is a time travel crime mystery. 

Time Travel Crime Mystery! 

There is company with access to illegal time travel technology that can save your loved ones if you can cough up the cash. Mark and Seth are low level grunts that work for the company.  Of course things are not how they seem. The situation gets worse for Mark and Seth when the FBI gets involved. 

I enjoyed this high speed, action packed comic. The trade is well worth it if you have yet to check out this story and it comes with extra features like unused covers, character designs, different color schemes and a touching letter by Ed Brisson.

Aside from the lovely words from Ed this comic has the amazing talents or Michael Walsh and Jordie Bellaire. Michael has amazing layouts for the story and paces it out expertly. His collaboration with Ed in the past shows because the two are so in tune the comic seems to have sprung from one mind. What can you say about colorist extraordinaire Jordie Bellaire? Ha! I really wanted to use than sentence. Another cool feature of this trade is that between issues it uses the covers as chapter breaks. Jordie's covers are visual candy for my eyes.

This book has a trifecta of creators involved. Pick it up or order it!
