Madame Tussauds' Marvel Super Hero 4-D Experience

As a way to round up and finish UK Week here at The Weekly Crisis, I was going to post a few photos and a rundown of what you can find in Madame Tussauds' Marvel Super Hero Experience. I got to visit the famous wax museum when I was in London, and there's a special exhibition specially dedicated to Marvel characters. Aside from being able to take photos with the wax figures (which I of course did, and there's photographic evidence), there's also a "4-D" movie to watch. The special Marvel exhibition is all the way at the end of the museum, after you go through all of the other sections. Of course, careful museum-goers can find comic book characters in other sections as well, for example, Patrick Stewart can be spotted early on in the Museum.

Sadly, there was no figure of Sir Ian McKellen, so if you are of the "Magneto Was Right" team, there's no statue for you to pose next to.

There's also other figures, that even though they went through small cosmetic changes, we all know deep down that this next person is Tony Stark.

In that same room, there's also a statue of Superman from the 1978 film based on Christopher Reeve. Sadly, it's behind some other statues, and up some stairs, so I couldn't get any good photos of it.

As we all know, in the famous first cover of Captain America Comics, Cap is punching the Fuhrer himself in the face. If you ever wished to know what that is like, then Madame Tussauds is also a place you should visit.

That's for stealing Chaplin's mustache!

There's also this other guy, who has showed up in a bunch of comics as well, including Savage Dragon, Amazing Spider-Man, Thunderbolts and many many more...

Anyway, enough with the foreplay, let's get to the main course, shall we?

You are greeted to the Marvel Super Heroes section by a huge statue of the Hulk. It's actually quite striking, because all the other statues in the museum are life size, while this one is probably twice as big as a normal human being. It's right in the center, but due to some funky lighting going around it, I couldn't get a good photo of it. By the looks of it, it's based on the Incredible Hulk movie, the one with Edward Norton, not the one with the giant Hulk dogs.

There's also several other statues, all of them based on the movie counterparts of the characters. So if you are a comic book purist, this will obviously not be an exhibition for you. The first one you come across (asides from the aforementioned Hulk), is your friendly neighborhood...

With great powers, comes great photo ops!

Yes, that's the London skyline inverted there in the background. With how often Tobey Maguire took off his mask in the movies, I was surprised that this was not a mask-less version of Spider-Man.

As you move along, the next wax statue is Canada's most popular superhero. No, not Deadpool, he's not there... yet. He's the best at what he does, and what he does...is just stand there for you to take photos with him.

Mmm... the beard is not quite there yet.

What's funny is that, as you can see in the photo, they have the Wolverine statue surrounded by some jail-like bars, probably so people don't take their eye out with the pointy claws. In that same room, there's also some props for people to take photos with, such as a set of claws, and a magnifying green glass, so you can stand there and look like you are Hulk-ing out.

The next one is a bit weird, because she is all by herself. I mean, it's strange that they would put just one of the members of the Fantastic Four, right?

 Don't mess with Sue, she will f#$k up your car.

It kind of makes think that they just happened already had a Jessica Alba statue, and they just threw a blue suit on her so they would have Invisible Woman on the exhibition.

As you move ahead, you come to the S.H.I.E.L.D. command room, which is really the lounge before you enter the movie theater. Of course, it wouldn't be a S.H.I.E.L.D. party without the main guy himself showing up, Nick Fury...

 I've had with these motherf#$king snakes on this motherf#$king Helicarrier!

In that same room, there's also a wax statue of the Iron Man armor, but I've seen those armors in a bunch of other places, so it's not quite as unique as all the other ones here.

In the end, you make it to the "Marvel Superheroes 4-D Experience", which is just a fancy way of saying a 3-D film with some special effects thrown in. It stars Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, Hulk and Spider-Man trying to protect Buckingham Palace from Doctor Doom. There's also a very small appearance by Ms. Marvel thrown into the mix. It's all a bit silly, since it's clearly aimed at children who are probably just familiar with the movie versions. That being said, I felt a small amount of nerd rage when they spelled "Spiderman" without the apostrophe.

The animation is actually quite similar to the cut scenes from Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and the 3-D is pretty good for what it is. The "4-D" effects include water being thrown your way, air whenever Hulk roars in your face, and for some odd reason, a small object hits you in the back of your seat whenever Wolverine pops his claws, among others. 

All in all, it was a pretty good part of my vacation, and as you can clearly see, I had lots of fun taking photos next to the statues. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting London to make some space in your schedule to visit Madame Tussauds there, as I don't think all the other sites around the world have this Marvel exhibition.
