I’ll be the first to admit that not much happens in
my part of the world, but it seems that an American comic book movie will be filming around these parts. Very much by chance, I found an advertisement on a job-hunting site that was asking for extras for an “adaptation of an American comic into the big screen”. What did the ad say and what movie could it possibly be for? Hit the jump to read this exclusive scoop.
The Ad
As it is a local advertisement, it’s completely in Spanish, and on top of that the site seems to be region restricted, so
this link to it will probably be completely useless to anyone outside the country. Here’s a screenshot of it...
And it (roughly) translates to...
“We are looking for extras, special extras, models with and without experience for American movie that will shoot soon in Valencia, we are looking for men, women and children. Age is not important [because] there are from 500 to 700 extras needed. It’s important that you send a photo of your face and body to the email [email withheld]. The movie is about the adaptation of an American comic into the big screen. It will be filmed in towns near Valencia. Thanks for your interest.”
What Movie Is It?
The ad obviously doesn’t say what movie it is, but there are a few things we can speculate from the information given here. First of all, that’s a lot of extras they are asking for, so we can stipulate that this is a huge set, maybe even a war piece? In that case, this could possibly be Captain America: The First Avenger, although that one is currently shooting in the UK.
The area around here in Valencia is very dry and full of hills, with plains in between the coast and mountains ranges. While it is true that the towns around the main city are all pretty old, filled with 40’s and 50’s era houses, and it would make a convincing war torn France, I don’t think they would move the set so much for something that could be filmed elsewhere. The desert-like setting would also be pretty fitting for either Thor or Green Lantern, although as far as I know both of those have finished filming.
Could it be for the upcoming Avengers movie? During a short sequence in Iron Man 2, we saw that there was a map with several key places marked in it, presumably where they would find the recruits for the Avengers team. Take a look...
(Disregard the arrow, it's about something else altogether)
None of the places in the map seem particularly close to Spain, not any place that would resemble it physically.
There’s also the possibility that this is for something completely outside of the big two, but that would make narrowing it down much more difficult. I’ve sent the company an email, hopefully I’ll hear back from them (and if I get lucky, appear in the movie as well). I’ll report if/whenever I learn more details about this whole deal. What movie do you think they are filming here? Let us know in the comments section.

Could it be... The Runaways? O.o I'm kidding, I honestly have no idea what it could be. All of the big name movies are already filmed on different locations or ended their filming, so, perhaps it's something new?
Iron Man 3, maybe?
I thought about Iron Man 3 as well, but as far as I know, they are going to film that one after Avengers.
Ah, I missed that info. Well, then, the only other comic book movie that comes to mind is the Fantastic Four Reboot, but that is supposed to be a CGI, if I'm not mistaken?
Maybe the add was wrong and it's a comic book series like Preacher...
Or maybe Del Toro and Perelman are doing Hellboy 3.
Damn you Matt, now I'm gonna stay up all night thinking about this. :P (It's 00:08 h here.)
Dredd, maybe?
the film is supposed to include some scenes in the "cursed earth" desert surrounding mega-city one
Judge Dredd's not an American comic though.
fair point
but do you trust whoever wrote that ad to know the difference?
just a guess but could they be wrong on the comic part and it could be The Dark Tower (which is currently being done in comic adaptations) much of that takes place in the desert.
Fair enough. I wasn't really paying attention. I thought it was Valencia, California or something.
Good points all around. I didn't know Hellboy 3 and Judge Dredd were filming already, but those are good guesses.
And I can see them mixing up The Dark Tower as well too, could be an easy mistake make.
About Hellboy 3... I've read on Robot 6 a few weeks back, that they have their script but Mignolla would rather they don't use it, because he wants to tell that story in comics as a Last Hellboy story...
dont get your hopes up. there are no goood ozzie superheroes
Can I clone your article to my blog? Thank you…
It's all in how you arrange the thing... the careful balance of the blueprint is the motion is the weapon of vulnerable people: it helps people who are subjugated to smile at the situation that pains them.
good one.
Good Points on this post its a very nice and helpful post.
