Iron Man To Build Batmobile

A comparison shot of the blueprints in Iron Man and from the 1989 Batmobile.

Invincible Iron Man #28 came out today and more details on Stark Resilient's (Tony Stark's new start up) business plans were shown.  He's going to use his repulsor tech to build a car.  As you can see from the above image, there are huge patent violations involved seeing as that car is the freaking Batmobile.

I know Salvador Larroca has been taking tips from Greg Land with his Invincible Iron Man run, but there are times you should just stop and think for a second.  There's sites dedicated to the car and you obviously spent 5 minutes on Google Image Search to find this thing. I can understand a joke about building the Batmobile, but a straight up copy and paste job from Google is a bit much.

Edit: The above post has been modified and some comments may not reflect the current text. I had originally written it in what I thought was more of a joking/sarcastic manner playing on the "goddamn Batmobile" jokes from All Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder, but it came off more like nerdrage instead.

I can easily believe Tony wants to build the Batmobile.

I wish they'd build me a Batmobile.

Is this for real? I dropped this book last month. That's hilarious!

Haha I'm so glad I dropped this book long, long ago.

So you want him to change the color... on blueprints?

Kirk Warren said...

@Anonymous - Well, not all blueprints are literally blue. MOst are black and white. The colour wasnt really the issue. I was pointing out how lazy he was in simply copy and pasting the Batmobile blueprint into the page that he didn't even bother to do any colour correction ro other attempts to hide it. This image is the third result for blueprints on Google Image Search.

In hindsight, I'm not really as upset as the post makes it out to be. I was going for some sarcasm, but it reads a bit like I'm angry over it.

I thought the fact that it was the batmobile was the Entire joke. He clearly chose those plans for a reason...

Yeah, I think the point is that we're supposed to figure out that's the Batmobile.

Dude, it really does come across as angry. Maybe a slight edit is in order?

I for one just felt it's probably the artist's little homage/nod/in-joke/geekism/whatever.

But to be fair, without your article, i probably would never have noticed myself anyway

Yeah, I think this one falls squarely into the "homage" field. Larroca can't be that idiot.

Wez said...

Ha. He definitely put that in there on purpose.

Matt Duarte said...

While I am sure this was intended as a homage, the fact that he straight up used the same image is concerning, and probably copyright infringement. The fact that this is not the first time that Larroca has used a photo in one of his comics doesn't help either.

If it were an homage, they could've simply drawn a Batmobile-esque blueprint. This is not an homage. It's a stolen pic pasted in from Google Image Search, just like the maps and phones that have appeared in this series from the beginning. I hope SOMEBODY at Marvel gives a damn and tells them to cut this shit out.

@Adrian - Yeah, I tried quoting some All Star Batman and Robin with the whole goddamn batmobile and what not, but it didn't really translate into the joking tone I intended. I've altered the post slightly and put an small edit note for reference.

So basically, to advance into the 21st century, he's using blueprints drawn up in 1989?

Between this and the nonstop face tracing (Tony Stark being Josh Holloway, and I guarantee you Josh never said Larocca could use his likeness), I'm just really wanting this 'artist' to get canned already.

i think its pretty damn hilarious, as long as it was just a tongue-in-cheek- nod towards the batmobile.
this will be significantly less funny if they actual make a damn batmobile.
