Geoff Johns posted a meaty blog entry over at DC's The Source blog that covered some lots of DC's upcoming television and film properties in development. There was discussion on the new Aqualad, both in comic and in the new Young Justice cartoon, some teasers regarding Sinestro in the Green Lantern live action movie and, the biggest shocker, and one I'm most excited about, a possible Blue Beetle live action television show. I've made my love for the now defunct Jamie Reyes comic well known in the past (really old; about month into the blog's life! I've even done a character spotlight on Jaime), but I never imagined something like this could happen. Hit the jump for some more images, what we know so far and my thoughts on the potential show!
What We Know

There's a Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) live action show or maybe even film in the works. The catch is this is all preliminary work. I'll let Mr Johns explain:
He’s already appeared in animation, had action figures and right now he’s on my computer in live-action glory. I have an early special effects test that has been floating around of what his armored scarab-suit could look like. This isn’t final. This isn’t greenlit. It’s only a test that was done. We still have a long way to go to see if we can get this off the ground and a lot of people to jump on board…
Basically, these shots are for what a live action Blue Beetle could look like. The show isn't confirmed or official in any capacity, but based on how good it looks and their posting it on their blog for the world to see, they are clearly trying to drum up support for the project or feeling it out and all I can say is it looks amazing, even with these rough photos.
My Thoughts

If you haven't guessed yet, I'm in love already. These are just proof of conecpt test shots and it looks like it's ready for a movie (outside the low resolution photos). I never really considered Blue Beetle as an even remote possibility for any kind of live action treatment, what with his title cancelled and all. I know he's shown up in Brave and the Bold and is a member of the Teen Titans, but I would have put money on a Smallville character (Green Arrow maybe) getting a live action show before anyone else. Seeing the possiblity for this just has me grinning like a madman. Not only is it possible he gets a TV show, but that means there's potential for a new volume of an ongoing for him to go along with the push.

I don't think this will make it pass the little clip they'll show at Comic-Con. I know its a bit cynical, but I think this is just DC telling us that they are "trying" to develop a Blue Beetle tv show, before they give us something else entirely. Trying to make us believe they actually care for characters outside of the 7. While I certainly wouldn't mind a Blue Beetle show in the same vane as Ben10 and his live action movies, I just can't see DC actually moving forward with this.
I don't know. DC's been making some major strides with their film and TV lately. I'm not saying it will get green lit to happen, but the fact they are even considering a Blue Beetle show and have gone to such lengths to post about it and show the work they've done so far tells me they are trying.
they'll probably neglect ted kord. Hopefully they'll stay faithful to the Giffen and Rogers stories.
They'll probably have to streamline somethings. Overall it's not bad, I think it looks pretty exciting.
Right now, I'm rather unimpressed by the look but I don't if it because of the bad pics or the CG is just bad.
Big picture though. While I probably wouldn't watch it any way but I think DC making a good choice with the Jamie Reyes Blue Beetle push. He's the closest thing they have to a Spider-Man type character without being an obvious rip-off so there is a decent chance that he could end up pretty popular.
But, more importantly, if he does succeed and sustain a TV or movie series it will probably mean very bad things for DC's, and Marvel's, superhero comic universes given that a comics character was is general considered a "failure" could find far wider appeal outside of comics than inside.
Thats what I'm talking about Kirk. This "testing" was never going to get greenlit. It was always just for you to say that they are trying.
The cynicism in some places is astounding. Like DC went to all the trouble to make this knowing it wouldn't move forward just to make us "think" they cared. That's ridiculous. Will it make it to TV? Who knows. But it if doesn't it won't be because Geoff Johns and DC don't want it to, but because TV executives at The CW or other networks are not interested.
